Rice is what?

Okay I have seen it used and I thought I knew what it was but I am not sure I do.

What do you mean when you say "RICE"? Thank you.

The best way to tell you is to show you:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6256

Generally, it refers to compact imports with over the top body kits, wings, paint, and graphics, and little or no real performance mods, although a few do have considerable performance mods. American cars with this treatment are called "Domestic Rice." Usually, they are constantly made fun of by non-Ricers. This is good site for makin fun of ricers:

http://www.ricecop.com

Also refered to sometimes as "Fast & Furious" type cars, after the movie. Does that help clear it up?

Yes :) So depending on who is talking, RICE is desirable or not. Some people look for RICE to put on there cars I guess.

i think RICE is a derogatory term - no one would say, "Look at all the rice on my car!" that's for someone else to decide.

to help you understand, here is an example of rice:

RSVX 10-13-2003 10:15 AM

I would say that Rice is derogatory in the sense that people try to make their cars LOOK fast as opposed to actually making it fast...

If it looks fast and is fast, I wouldnt call it rice.

svx_commuter 10-13-2003 11:20 AM

So.... would this be rice?
>>>>>
Hooked up? I'm talking riced out ..........not disgustingly but classy.

Maybe a "fitted" pair of side skirts (which I must admit the SVX REALLY needs) and some sort of custom front bumper. Maybe some huge 19" wheels with a deep lip (something different). A slammed SVX on bags maybe? ......dam that would be HOT.

I don't know .........I just want to see if I can get some "ideas" of what to do to my SVX......I liked the way my G came out and it was pretty much stock.

But here's what I would like to do with an SVX:
-18" rims
-maybe a small 1" drop
-that bumper I posted from Japan
-Some custom side skirts (not sure of what car would look good on the SVX)
-those minor euro lip splitters on the rear bumper
-HIDs
-35% Window Tint
-I'd like to do something different with the grill, like mold it into the bumper like Nissan Skyline style
-Lambo doors (definitely a must on the SVX....shoulda came with them stock )
-A little more "wide bodyish" ...I love how the SVX has those fender flares but I'd like them to be a little more extreme.

....and i think that's it............definitely expensive but the SVX is my dream car, so I've got dreams.

IMO, Rice = Something that you put on the car to uglyfy the car while adding no preformance power what soever to the vehicle. If you can back up your claims then, it's not rice anymore.

eg, 92 Honda Civic with TypeR lable would be rice.
03 Civic with TypeR lable may or may not be rice since he may actually have a TypeR vehicle.

94L SVX with a wing on the back of the car with no take off ability is rice esp. since it's a FWD SVX and adding a wing will not help.
94LSi SVX with a spoiler would not be rice.
At the same time, 94L SVX with a spoiler is not rice since it is a factory option that is available.

those sound like tasteful mods to me. i guess the arguement could be made that they are all appearance and no performance, but i don't think anyone would call what you are planning 'rice'.

i tend to think of rice as a slow car with extreme 'look-at-me!' add-ons that make it look like some sort of wannabe race car. you can modify your car tastefully and not be rice, IMHO. if you add Altezza-style taillights to any car, however, you should be shot in the face.

i guess my WRX is rice with the factory imitation carbon fiber trim. i wouldn't actually have gotten that as an option, but it was already installed in the car, and was basically free.

That reminds me of something funny. For 2004, the Legacy L comes standard with a power seat where it didnt for 2003. The funny part is, the base price of the Legacy L is the same base price for the 2003 plus the cost of the power seat option in 2003. So it's basically like subaru forces you to get it now. haha.

i mean free in the fact that i beat the salesman up so bad on the price AND the trade-ins. i got $4500 for my wife's base model '92 Cavalier (manual windows, AM/FM- not even cassette) and my '87 Lesabre T-type (looked nice, but POS). i wasn't expecting to get that much for those two if i sold them myself, besides i didn't have to deal with the hassle of selling them. :)

it was a loaded auto WRX that i got for the price of a stripped manual. ;)

If it is factory option, it's not rice.:D

Hey, Lwin? I'm planning on putting a roll cage in the Justy. I don't know how much hope it has of running 13s or less in the quarter - probably none. But I'd like to have the roll cage in case the car...

...you know...

...rolls over.

So I guess I'll be ricing up the Justy... :D

In all seriousness, I agree with those of you who define anything added to a car to make it 'look fast.'

In which case, Toyota is blatantly guilty with their 'Action Package' Celica - which was actually advertised with the slogan 'Looks Fast.'

Seraph 10-14-2003 11:36 PM

In your case with the Justy, you have a safety issue. I have seen some weird stuff on cars. I have seen a porche with a wing like a head of a deer. I sware if you look at it from far away, you'd say that's a deer. I have seen a regular v6 camaro with white out lights and tripple wings.

I just can't stand any of those things.
