miscellaaneous svx

i have two very important questions today.

1. what should i do about the belly pan bolts that keep breaking off?

2. when i look from the front underside towards the rear, with the belly pan removed, should i see a toothed fly wheel-like part ( i know this is an auto trans, but...) Shouldn't there be some kind of cover over this flywheel-like thing?

I appreciate any and all repsonses...

Scott,
You're a better man than I am. So far I haven't even lifted up my car.. Which I will have to do this weekend to get the wheels going the right directions!

I do have a question though, what are you doing to break off the bolts. Are the roads that bad up in Park City that you're bottoming out?

:)

1. I don't know. Only a few of mine are still good. I just figured that eventually I'd have to drill out the old bolts, tap the threads and start using stainless hardware.

2. You are seeing the driveplate. The starter motor meshes with those teeth, just like on a flywheel. I don't remember if the underside is supposed to have a cover over the access hole, but the cover that fits in the upper hole basically sits there without any kind of catch or tab. I don't know why mine is still there.

Those access holes are the only way to get to the bolts that attach the driveplate to the torque converter, so, yeah, there's supposed to be a hole there.

hey...it must be my new jersey upbringing, but i have to know what's going on underneath, and the best way to keep tabs on that is by doing the oil change. Plus i've had some really unsettling with all of the dealers in salt lake city who have done work on my svx over the years, and me seeing what's going on underneath helps keep some peace of mind.

but no, the bolts don't break off, they freeze up. and come to tink of it, i bottom out in salt lake city more than park city because of all those concrete run-off ditches!!!

you're right

You do have to drive pretty careful around here the curbs and runoff ditches... :( I think I might miss the Pac Hyway.... But I am glad to be back where I will get to test the awd (if it ever snows)....;)
