'93 Legacy Turbo Tranny?

Anyone know the gear ratio for a '93 Legacy Turbo tranny? Will it bolt up?

huck369 09-19-2007 05:07 AM

3.90's Auto
and pretty sure the manual is also 3.90's on them...

Yes, it will bolt up...but you'll need the rear diff too...

Huck would be correct. Not so sure what you'd need to do to the rear dif though as some were LSDs already but it looks quite different if I remember correctly. If its an auto tranny, I'd shy away from it they definately had a higher number of failures than did the non turbo legacy turbo trannies.

Yeah but that could also be casued by the 25 more HP and approx 45 ft more torq.

90's Legacy Turbos

Ive owned three legacy turbos, two 94 Touring wagons and a 93 SS, and the trannies were mint, never had an issue. Of course maintenance is everything. I also owned two non turbo gen. 1 legacys, a 91 sedan and a 93 wagon. Amsoil ATF is the best.

Yay, an instance where me having been a Legacy-nut helps!

The ONLY year that got rear LSD was MY91, and ONLY the Sport Sedan. That being the US market, of course. Elsewhere it was different as there were more models of the Legacy. The SS was introduced in '91 with an LSD, and it was removed for '92-'94. So if you're looking for a transmission, go for '91.

There was no turbo in '90 so yeah.

The 3.90 LSD unit from the Legacy Turbos will NOT work with the SVX axles...so it's still requires swaping the gears

Well that just sucks.

If the one axle will fit then just get another one and scrap the one with the extension... Not hard and relatively cheap

Pretty sure the early Turbo Legacys still had the stubs sticking out of the rear diff, so it would require both rear axles, or swapping the gears.

You wouldn't be right on the MY91. Better check those nuts. My mothers 92 had a rear LSD. She bought it new and it was an optional item at least in 92. Maybe she's the only one to get it as they only had 1 more left but it has it to this day and its a 92.

Or the fact that it was a slightly different transmission with lower gears so it like the SVX would have heat up issues and flow problems.

That's not right... MY91, the pre-facelift Turbo, was the one that had LSD. If you bought a '92, it's entirely possible that it was a left-over MY91. The biggest difference is that '92-'94 are post-facelift, and that in particular the '92 differs from the rest in that it has clear rear turn signal housings instead of amber.

I have just never heard of a MY92+ having LSD. Only the MY91 turbo.
