parts from other tranny's?
 

Would you be able to take parts from another subaru Tranny and use it in the SVX tranny?
Ref: 95 legacy LSi tranny

Just swap in the whole trans with the matching rear diff.:)

well if its just the flexplate and or TC dont need to swap the whole tranny but I was wondering if i can just take the flexplate and TC from the legacy LSi tranny and swap it into the SVX for a quick fix. I'm sure anyone would be frustrated to have a car they just bought but cant drive :P

ur saying the tranny from a 95 legacy LSi is better than the SVX tranny? or you referring to the 3.9 changing to a 4.11 rear diff ratio? Plus wont my spedo be off? not exactly same work switching a tranny than replacing a TC and Flexplate. I just wanna know if they are the same or not.

Isnt the stock rear diff on an SVX an R180 the same as the STi diff?

Yeah, the two flexplates and torque convertors would interchange, IF I recall correctly. If you need it in a pinch, this would be a do-able solution.

You just have to put the speed sensor from the SVX on the Legacy trans, everything else bolts up. And swapping out the rear diff is a little work but it will be worth it.

The legacy probably has 4.11 gears and therefore it will be less stress on the trans to get the heavy SVX moving. Your gas mileage in town will increase from actually doing less work essentially and your highway mileage will drop slightly. And the best part is that it will have more "pep" off the line.

You CAN NOT use another torque converter with an SVX transmission and have the transmission last!
IF you swiched to a 4.44, you could use either tq, but you can only use an SVX tq with an SVX transmission!

Awesome thanks. well its nice to know that the flexplates are the same i just hope the TC is still in working order will find out on sunday :S

Actually he didn't say that. The legacy converter is a smaller diameter, higher stall unit. The legacy flex plate is also a smaller diameter unit. You have to match the flex plate to the torque converter.

The SVX transmission is actually superior to the legacy transmission. There are a couple clutch packs in the legacy transmission that aren't as stout as their counterparts in an SVX transmission. It's just easier to find Subaru transmissions out of other types of Subarus that are in better condition than most SVX transmissions.

I guess your problem is that you are fairly certain you have a broken flex plate? This usually happens when someone forgot to use both guide pins on the bell housing.

You have to change more parts. If you are talking about making the rear dif match the transmission you have to put the svx viscuous limited slip carier into the other rear end. If you are talking about changing the front dif on the transmission to match the rear end you have to pull the pinion and shim from the other transmission as well. You really should completely redo the dif set up then because there is no guarantee the horizantal alignment of the machine work is the same on all pumps but others have gotten away without doing this (and unless you REALLY know what you are doing and have all the special tools to do it it is better if you don't mess with it).
