pantera cost rising

I have been looking at ebay for a future project and found the cost of the DeTomaso Pantera is on the rise. None less than $15,000  Now for the good news the 850i is on the down slope :) I can't afford either but it's fun to window shop.

my buddy had a Pantera for a day when he worked at a car lot, but he never came to pick me up for a ride.

the 850's are nice-looking, but owners and reviews say they are fat heavy pigs that totally isolate the driver with no feedback. also, lots of electrical gremlins.

....but they do look nice.

I bet that V12 has no problem draggin around that fat heavy pig tho! Why am I so drawn to wierd expensive cars

actually, it does. 296hp + 4134lb curb weight = 7.2sec 0-60 and 15.6 in the 1/4 .... pretty much equivalent to an SVX. i got these figures from one of the several 850 vs. 928 reviews i have, and the verdict on it is "a coupe that excites the eyes, but not the soul."

I had mentioned last year that I came across a Pantera that the owner turned down an offer of USD$175,000 to purchase.

 perhaps he added a zero because it sounded better, after all, zeros are worth nothing :p owners always want to hype their cars

Oh, I know, it was $2500.00, but the dot moved and changed shape :D

Nice looking cars, but yank the 351 ford and put in a 350 Chevy. If you get a newer aluminum block LS6 it's way lighter and stronger. Plus easy to get 400+hp out of it N/A. Add a S/C and you are in F430 company.

ok, the 850 is out of the question. Fat slow expensive and on my budget I obviously can't afford to fix anything that goes wrong. Hmmm, sounds familiar. The Pantera on the other hand is a little less similar to a nuclear submarine under the hood. I just hope someday I could find one half rotten for a decent price.
