Swapping ECUs for ECUtUne
 

Stupid question and I think I will regret asking but.....

Can a 1992 SVX ECU be swapped for a 1996 ECU? If not...why? I looked and will continue to look for the answer. Not sure if they have the same pin-outs with minor exceptions (Like O2 metering after cat converter). Would be nice to swap and get an ECUTune modification. Thanks!

I doubt it Kevin, since the 96 is a OBDII and the 92 is a OBDI system, which are completely different software (think MAC and PC)....But all the sensors are the same (other than the extra O@...so who know...)

I should know better than to ask. OBDI codes are usually read by counting the number of fast lights vs the slow ones to get a code while OBDII codes can be read from a scan tool. Two different types of ECUs.

Mike mentioned a swap of some kind I think.....

You aught to be able to put a obdI svx ecu into and obdII SVX. You just have to make a wiring harness adaptor.

Get an extra obdII ecu to cut the harness plug out of the ecu.
Get an obdI ecu and obdI harness.
Solder the obdI harness to the obdII plug.
--you then have an adaptor to plug in between the harness in your obdII car and your obdI ecu.

I have no idea what emissions regulations are in your state, but this change would be cause for failure here in MA. OCDII vehicles codes are read, earilier vehicles actually tested. Emissions related equipment from later years can be used, but not from earlier years. Proceed with caution.

having the ability to change out the OBDII ecu easily would bypass any issues with state inspections... Just change them out for inspection and replace the OBD I ECU when you get home... Leave the harnesses for both
