better MPG or trashed tranny?
so i hav been readin that are cars get the best MPG at 80MPH...so when i was drivin down I-10, i was doin 80MPH and looked at my tac, it was at 2700 ish....
so my question is since i do about 60 on Houghton (home, wrk, and skoo), would i get better gas milage poppin the tranny into 3rd....the tac is about 2700. or would i get better milage but a trashed tranny? |
I fail to see the reasoning behind "higher rpms = better gas mileage"

idk either, just a thought

The best mpg is when the tranny is warmed-up and the torque converter is in lock-up. That would be at 45mph. I used to drive 75-80. Wow was that very fun!! Gas was less and the cops were well less too. I got about 23 mpg or so. So now I drive slower around 65 tops and less and get 26mpg. Sometimes I get 28mpg. The best speed is 45 mph with TC locked-up.
Take care of that SVX, John |
Sorry, there's no way any SVX gets better fuel economy at 80 MPH than 60, unless it's downhill with a stiff tailwind. Once you top 55-60 fuel consumption will increase with speed in any car. Running in anything other than top gear sure won't help.

MOST cars get best gas mileage between 55-60, the SVX has a low geared transmission and superb drag coefficient, it wouldnt be unreasonable to see good gas mileage up to 75mph. just a thought
