Anyone have the SVX manual on CD?

Feel like sharing at all? Maybe we could work something out, and I could compensate you. Lwin, I'm thinking you might have it already. Anyway, I have broadband, so your sharing would be short and sweet. Anyone?

- Rob

PS: We should chip in and make it available on this website.

that would be lovely, but I think it would also be a copywrite violation (especially since it's still in print).

I'm not really sure how they get away with it on the CD either. It is a bunch of acrobat files from the manual.

Copyright Shmopyright. I don't think it'd be illegal if it was available for NOTHING.... if this place CHARGED to use it, then I think they'd have a problem with it.

Well, it's illegal whether Subaru presses charges or not. Like most books, it says right in the manuals that they're not to be duplicated.

Normally, though, I'd say that you're right - Subaru will most likely not press charges against one person copying one document. But I think Subaru might look at service manuals a little differently. If you buy a set from a dealer, they're probably losing service money but at least they're getting something for selling the manuals. If you rip the manuals off, they're losing the business.

No, I don't think Subaru is going to go after you for it - they seem to let the eBay sellers rip them off daily - but I would still say it's not right.

I'd recommend just buying the manuals. They're expensive, but worth having. I don't know how I got by without them for so long. If you can't afford the whole set, get the volumes one at a time when you need them.

Thanks dad. :P

Anyway, does anyone have the set on CD? I'm looking at a LOT in SVX expenses this summer, and actually, if I had the manual, Subie would be getting MORE money from me.... if I have to buy all the service manuals as well, that means I can't replace as many parts as I'd like.

I have the set on paper. The manuals are for the '92 MY plus supplements for each model year. I have the '92 MY set plus the 97 supplement. This supplement is not worth the paper that it's printed on. I need to get a 94 supplement.

I have no scanner capabilities.

Rob & Evil, if you need a particular area/section for any work that you are currently doing, send me a PM or e-mail.

Evil, this is a family site. Let's try to keep the language on a higher level.

I really don't feel like blowing 20 bucks on that CD either. If I do, I'm going to upload the whole thing into my folder for everyone to use. :)

Been there, done that, wasted my money IMHO. All the files on it can be found here: http://reaper450128.homeftp.net

I honestly don't think this is a true Subaru manual, it looks like a Chiltons version. This is the one off Ebay.

I haven't found a great deal of use for it, maybe others will. Enjoy!

BTW, I could use some scans from the real manual on the automatic seat-belt system, if anyone wants to repay me for my effort in posting that page ;). I have narrowed my problem (driver's side one doesn't move, it just stays in the full back position) down to the switch in the driver's side door (if I open the door and use a key or something to close the switch, the seat belt actually moves most of the time) or a loose connection around the motor.

Just to warn you, anything you really think you'll need you might want to download and store on your PC, my DSL connection has a bad habit of just suddenly disconnecting for a few minutes to a couple hours, a day at the most (so far). It usually only happens between 10 am and 2 pm on weekdays, but it potentially could happen at anytime. The server itself is running 24/7/365 barring power failure, and has never had a software problem to date (RedHat 7.3 and latest version of Apache 2.0, nice and stable combo, albeit on a puny little Pentium MMX 233Mhz w/64MB of RAM), its just got a somewhat unstable connection to the world.

Beyond that warning, feel free to abuse the site as much as you like ;), it will show me how good I really am at buidling servers before I get a chance to do it professionally. There will be some downtime in the next couple of weeks when I finally fix the weak hardware issue (upgrading my main box, so my server gets the hand-me-down pair of PIII 1GHz w/512MB of RAM). This should provide an even more robust server environment, and might fix the slow thumbnail issue I have on the other two pages on the site. However, this downtime should be very short as this is my primary email server as well, so extensive downtime is intolerable.

Sorry if I lost anyone there with computer talk, I get excited when I talk about servers and networks :D:D!

Chicane 06-10-2003 05:58 PM

Yeah, thanks a lot man! I was going to do the same exact thing. :) Only without the ubergeek server PC talk.

BTW, I have the worlds fastest 1st gen iMac. :P
