Add one more to California!
 

Well I think I've been teasing it in various threads in the SW forum for years, but now it's official. As of mid-July my SVX and I will be hitting California soil and staying put.

First step will be to see if I can pass emissions with 240,000 miles on the odo. :D

I'm leaving behind a great group of SVX owners up here in WA, most of whom I call close friends. After 12 years of running events up here, that tends to happen. :)

Hoping to get a similar experience going down in Cali some day, though it's a challenge I'm sure.

My family and I will be settling into the San Jose area.

Hope to meet some of you face to face one of these days!

Im about two hrs north of u, also glen (aka rojo rocket) is up here too.

I just started driving my svx.. Had it 4 years and never drove it but I sold all my other cars and now only have it. Its a 92 and I put a 03 wrx 5mt with a stage 2 clutch in it. So far its running great! Its 4 different colors at the moment lol but I got the paint for it just gotta get time to prep it.

Hope ur smog goes ok.. Its a pain in the butt! Every 2 years here u gotta smog... If u fail the nox part.. Its the cats :/ all my other cars when they failed it was the cat.. And a new cat did it each time.. The cheep ones are 250 ish installed and only last for about 2 years.

So again welcome to cali :)

P.s cops here are ticket happy so watch ur speedo :)

I'm Armando (AlcyoneSVX). I'm in the L.A. area. I think it would be great to get a California meet going and meet some more SVX owners.
My work schedule is a bit tricky, but with some proper planning, I'm sure I can swing a few extra days off to attend a gathering.
I've owned my SVX for fifteen years, but I've only been a forum member for eight months, so I'm just now getting to know some of the other owners. (better late the never!) :D

Been here about a week and still settling in but already enjoying the consistent sunshine! :D

Flying back up to WA in a few weeks to retrieve my SVX and plan to take a nice scenic route all the way down the coast over a few days. :cool:

Izack - You, Glen, and I will definitely have to touch base some time with a NorCal mini meet up there sometime. Years ago there were 3 or 4 members right in the San Jose area but they seemed to disappear.

Armando - Were you one of the ones at the Subaru show about a month ago with the really nice looking SVXes? I know there are a couple others down south as well, including the 2 JDM models.

Give me some time, but once I get settled in and get my bearings, I would really like to put together something "worth the trip" down on the central coast or somewhere. My wife took me to Avila Beach last Friday and that was a nice area, or I'm sure there's lots of other nice spots "halfway" between everyone as well. :cool:

Just resurrecting this thread after over half a year! :)

I realized I never mentioned that I got the SVX down here safely at the beginning of August, although the trip down did emphasize that I really need to replace the suspension (or not have a passenger and lots of luggage).

The car has survived down here since then, mostly it just does once a week commuting duty from Morgan Hill to San Ramon which is right in the SVX sweet spot - open road 80mph for 40 miles each way. That's my weekly therapy. :cool:

We just recently sold our house up in WA so just this month we started the process of getting driver's licenses and registering our cars. The SVX is the last thing left, with tabs paid for but waiting on smog. I want to give her an oil change and such just to be sure. :D

Other than that, I've been enjoying it here and every time we go for a drive somewhere new I'm always thinking "hmmm, that could be an interesting segment for a group drive". Old habits die hard I guess, but I really do want to get something going at some point that will make it worth the time and mileage investment to get some CA SVXes together since I know we are all spread out.

And I still dream of eventually bringing all my old NW friends and CA folks all together in one big West Coast meet somewhere in the middle. :)

I dream of driving Sue down to the S OR coast, maybe as far as Crescent city CA. I'm fond of Yachats n Bandon OR, and love the redwoods. Would be pretty cool to see several SVXs among those giant trees!

Hwy 101 down the OR coast and into NorCal is amazing! I drove that route to bring my SVX to its new home last August. Then I took Hwy 1 down the rest of the way where it starts in the redwoods. Just drove up through all of that in reverse the other day with the family in the vacation mobile and saw so much cool stuff we want to take the kids too now we are thinking instead of taking the 5 back we are probably going to do the coast and redwoods again when we go back next week. :lol:

It's funny though, Redding has been our family stop over for the night on 3 different trips to and from WA in the last year and last time I starting thinking that it might be somewhat of a central location when the whole west coast is taken into account (LA to northern WA). I didn't catch the name similarities though. :lol:


Anyway, I like all this talk about getting something going, keep it up. :cool:
