Want - GPS/DVD/Radio/stereo that fits.

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...gation/DNX5120

I saw this in my Crutchfield mag that I get sent for some reason I'll never understand. This is the kind of thing I would like to have in my SVX to replace the POS unit I have now.
I was ready to buy one when I looked up the dimensions that neither the magazine nor the site supplies. It's Width: 7.2 in Height: 4.4 in, or so, and I measured my space as a very tight 7x4.
I guess it's possible that size includes what looks to be a removable surround, but I can't tell. I don't know if sizes are universal or vary per manufacturer.

So, does anyone out there have something like this or know of something similar? I don't need GPS or DVD, it's just nice to have those things to update the interior.

Hey,

I install car stereo equipment for a side business and I just thought I would let you know that in my svx I have the Pioneer AVIC-D3. It is a Nav/DVD/CD/iPod unit. It fits perfectly in the dash, but you will need to fab a piece to cover the bottom metal fittings because the tray cover does not close when putting a double-din radio in...the screen will stick out too far.

Any of the Pioneer D or F series fits perfectly. The Z series is a little wide. You might also try the Kenwood 5120. I am a Pioneer person, so I am a little biased. haha!

Hope that helps!

Neat! I searched that model, went to the Pioneer site and it has a fitment "guide".

Now I just need to find out what "DIN" means.

Dounle Din or Single Din

just the size of the unit ...umm besit idea is
this is what a double din looks like

http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...uble+din&gbv=2

and this is a single DIN

http://images.google.com/images?gbv=...f&q=Single+din

We can do either just depending on the measurements of the unit your installing...I have a single DIN with infiniti Kapas but i am thinking about a double DIN upgrade though once everything is in working order on my car.

can you post a D3 installed pic
i have one from my old car and was thinking about using it in the svx

Yeah I figured that out but I guess I didn't realize that that was the name for the standard. I thought it had something to do with the connectors.

The Pioneer AVIC-D3 and Kenwood DNX5120 seem pretty much identical.

Am I going to need to buy a harness from someone on the site to hook this up?

apocalixto, got pics?

I was contemplating the Pioneer D3 a while back on Nasioc...
But I was trying to find the exact difference between the Pioneers D1, D2 and D3 with no luck...

Any help guys?

When you get the pioneer unit, it comes with a couple different harnesses...you just have to solder the wires together then electrical tape them. You do not need the wiring harness for the svx because you can just clip the old clip off and connect the new connector to it.

when I get my new camera i will post pics. i should have it by the end of next week.

Re: Want - GPS/DVD/Radio/stereo that fits.

oh ya and the difference between the d2 and d3 is pretty simple. the interface on the d2 is less complex with less ins and outs. the d2 also slides out and has 2 disk inserts...one for the map disc and one for CD/DVD etc. the d3 only has one on the top of the unit. this is a little hindering b/c of the fact you have to have the disc in it to navigate...but on the svx we can not have flip outs or ones that slide down. so you either have to go with the d3 or the kenwood 5120. the only thing the kenwood has up on the pioneer in my opinion is the fact that it uses the garmin navigation. so the navigation is memory based. i feel as if the nav looks a little childish though. the pioneer one looks very professional.

you could always use the alpine double din unit, its the IVA-W505. Its a motorized double din unit that is nav. ready, but it looks really cool. I was playing with one the other day at work(i work at best buy in the car audio department, sometime on the sales floor and sometimes as an installer). The coolest part of it besides the screen layout is that it uses the pulse tech. where you dont really need to touch the screen for it to react. unfortunately its a little on the expensive side, but hey why not go all out right?

Bummer! Contacted Pioneer Dubai around here, it seems the AVIC series were never available for the Middle East
If I buy one, I will not be able to configure its GPS interface

I think I am gonna get stuck with the Kenwood...

that may be true, but after recently purchasing a Navigon GPS with a slick high tech-looking display, i found i preferred my old Garmin. i returned the Navigon because it was too hard to deal with while driving.

a nice simple display > too much info and tiny text/graphics.
the Garmin's big touchscreen "buttons" are much more appreciated now.
