High RPM (2000) while AC is on??
 

Hi Folks,

The other day I was driving home from work and had the car out of gear (5 speed) and the RPMs were around 2000. I turned the AC off and dropped back to 1K. Im in FL and I still need the AC.

Before this happened it might have gone to 1100 with the AC running and 900 with out.

Is this a symptom of a bad relay? Any advice would be appriecated..

Chris, there must be something wrong with your intake system. Most probably the Valve Assembly Air Control. As far as I know, This part cannot be cleaned, it should be replaced. Around $230 :(

I tried to clean mine with Carb Cleaner, I ruined it :(

Some people just restart the engine. I find that just coming to a complete stop will drop the RPMs back to normal.

I also have the neutral pin grounded which also helps to keep the idle at normal RPM's.

Are you guys finding that your RPMs are higher with the manual trans? If so, how much higher? Ever tried adjusting it?

No, the RPM's are the same except the high idle doesn't come off on mine until I come to a complete stop.

I don't know if this is good advice or not, but it seems that the manual trans might actually load the engine more or less (I would think less) than the automatic. You might almost want to do a warm adjustment of the IAC unit by blocking it off and readjusting the throttle plates. You might also want to first check your auxilliary air control valve first to see if that is messed up or disconnected. Any other opinions on this?
