Hood Scoop

Just getting some opinions on a small hood scoop for the SVX. Its carbon fiber, small ,and very N1-esque. What do you guys think?

I think that style of a scoop looks more appropriate for our cars more than the STI style scoop. I wouldn't mind that on my car.

It looks good but doesn't function. Why lose aerodynamics just for looks? I'm big on performance over looks. I was going ot buy the Fiberglass hood with the small scoop but, Decided against messing with our already low drag coeffiecent. Just my .02.

it functions to feed my new intake with cold air, the small opening would vary the aero too much, and the aero change would be miniscule compared to the increased power, right?

If it will dump water/debris into the engine bay... not a good thing.

I think the hood with the small Legacy GT style scoop looks best for the SVX... and is also appropriate due to it having that Subaru look to it (yet not overly showy).

I started a thread on this long ago and the offset scoops similar to a 931 Porsche looked pretty good and would prevent the debris/water issue. Kick it a little more to the passenger side and it would be right on top of the airbox.

I might be wrong, but doesn't that EVO style scoop help the radiator/trans cooler heat escape, making a cooler running engine? As for the water issue, the water would be falling on the radiator.

we are talking about the small one, look at the link.
And yes, I was going to put over the stock air box, about 2/3 to the right, and half way doen the hood.

You really wont see any power gains from this. Something to consider, as far as filters. High flow filters tend to not clean the air as well. having a proper intake system will help counteract crapola from getting in the engine. if you look at alot of actuall track ready cars they will use the stock airbox.
Not like an intake alone gets any considerable hp gains or anything. I think the power addition will barely compensate for the areodynamic loss (Though both are neglagable)

what if you weren't using it for cold air intake?

If you are using it for an air intake then yes it would be pointless, but if you are using it in the same way the STI uses its hood scoop for then it could be a good deal. You might be able to fit an oil cooler in right there by the air box (I have dayle's CAI so I have more room) and have fresh air blowing right on it, therefore keeping the coolent happy and not losing valuable engine bay space. This would work great if you are getting a SC or staying N/A, it would suck for a turbo app.

Thats my thoughts.

I have my intake purely for the sound, the intake really doesn't do anything unless you count the couple pounds of weight savings.
