Need Help

I desperately need your help to talk me out of what I'm about to do. I am currently lusting after a 2006 Baja turbo. I have narrowed it down to 2 trucks. Both have about 125,000+ mile on them, both are clean, both are auto tranny, and both cost about $10,500 - $11,000. Please, please , please, talk me out of this. We currently have 4 SVXes and 2 Outbacks. We only have a 2 car garage. I am like a drug addict who sees a fresh supply of opium.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I had a BAJA for a short while, and decided It wasn't the car for me....so...my Vote is.... Don't do it! :)

Re: Need Help

I was looking for a Baja for ages. The ones I found were junk or overpriced like the ones you found. That's way too much money for what they are.
They are prone to the usual Outback rust because that's all they are, an Outback with the back windows cut off.
Don't do it!!! Too much $$$ for nothing.

Re: Need Help

If you had found a manual turbo baja, I'd say do it. Super rare even by SVX standards and a neat car with a 4.44 five speed. But at the end of the day, as blacky said, it's an outback with the back chopped off.

Life is short, Subarus are awesome. You want it? Get it.

Re: Need Help

our Forester XT turbo's engine went at 71k. this was my wife's gently driven, unmodified, meticulously maintained car.

ask Mike Davis about his Legacy GT turbo.

Subaru's have a reputation for reliability.
it may have been true a long time ago, but not anymore. great marketing by them to maintain that belief, though.

Re: Need Help

I'm sorry, I cannot echo the general sentiment on here... I have a 2006 Baja Turbo Manual and I love it. Sure, it has all the problems and issues associated with a 12 year old turbo vehicle, but it's awesome just the same.
If you have the need for this type of vehicle, there are very few similar cars produced nowadays that can be as flexible.
The current state of the vehicle is all about how it has been driven and maintained... pick the best one you can find.

We have a an '07 turbo Outback. It has never given us any trouble, but we take care of our cars and give them the required service and beyond on time.

Re: Need Help

.

Our 2010 2.5 Outback went 335,000 miles without a hiccup, just regular service.

But my much-babied 1996 Polo blew a head gasket in 2010, with just 121,000 miles. No amount of maintenance could have prevented that.

I've just about decided to get the 2006 Baja turbo. The one I'm going after is silver with 123, 519 miles on it and has a full bed cover.

Go for it... life is short and we have to make it fun. Certainly a 12 year old Baja can't be any more difficult to run and maintain than a 25 year old SVX! Good luck!

For me, the Baja is my quick car, my SVX is my fast car...

But Larry has always made it fun. He is smitten with his post-war, exotic, vintage "Naviguesser".

She is both quick AND fast...

Mike Davis has a 2000 Ferrari Modena 360 for sale at Pennant Motors, with only 35,000 miles.

And the color is sure to be a perfect match to one of Rosie's lipsticks or OPI nail colors. And I am sure you could find her a summer handbag to go with the interior.

(And the lovely "Dooney Diva" in my house probably already has one...)

Re: Need Help

Well I finally scratched my itch, I bought a 2005 Turbo Baja on Saturday. It is pearl white with silver cladding. It has a hard silver bed cover and a bed extender plus a tow bar. It has 88,553 miles on it and is in very good shape. It seems to have been garage kept and has a clean car fax report.

I have to blame Mike Davis for giving me this craze, Since he brought that Baja to The Reading SVX Meet, I haven't been able to get the damn thing out of my head. Mike, Rosie is asking that you please don't bring anything else to the Reading Meet next year.

I have a sweet Z4 going up for sale shortly... ;)

Congratulations! I’ve been lusting after another WRX myself. Bad body good mechanicals so I can build one of those mid engine kits.

Congrats Larry!
I hope you enjoy it, I had one for a while, Yellow 5-speed,(who'd have thought) but went back to a Forester for my daily. :)

Re: Need Help

Congrats Larry, the Baja is awesome and turns as many heads as an SVX.
I have a '06 Turbo manual, Atlantic Blue... love it!
Enjoy yours... :)

Hope you're having fun with your new Baja! I always thought they were a neat ride, you get truck utility without feeling like you're driving a truck. We still have quite a few customers here with them and they never want to give them up!

Re: Need Help

Thanks Jackie,

I'm loving it, and Rosie thinks it's beautiful. It is pearl white with silver cladding.

Re: Need Help

Now, I need more help!

Rosie's birthday was in early May. I bought her a 2008 LL Bean Outback in Harvest Gold. It has a beige/bone colored interior. It has the 3.0 liter 6 cylinder engine and automatic tranny. It had 114,500 miles on it and is in very, very good shape. It even has a small GPS navigation screen plus satellite subscription radio (thru blue tooth) and you can plug in cell phones.

It is very clean and a very pretty car. It is luxurious inside and drives and rides very nicely. We named it "AIJOU" which means love or affection in Japanese. As soon as I get the paperwork from PA (takes forever) I will get a DE vanity plate with AIJOU on it.

Happy Birthday Rosie!!! Hope she's feeling better!

I do love the H-6's, so much fun! It's sad to say that 2019 is the last year for them, the 2020's will share the 2.4L Turbo engine from the Ascent.
