dies right after it starts
 

ive been having problems with my car not starting properly. when i turn the key it starts, but then right away the rpm's drop and it dies. it does this about 2 or so times, then it fianlly stays going . i was wondering if it could be something as simple as the choke or something worse?

Sounds like the MAF sensor to me. Check all the plastic bits going to the intake first. Make sure they're all tight and not cracked also, the hoses for tight fit and splits. If that all checks out, try to borrow a "known good" MAF sensor and see if that's the problem.

You could also try cleaning the throttle body. It could be gettin' gooey in there and the butterflies or IRIS "flapper" are sticking.

I agree, the MAF system requires no leaks to run smooth. Have a look where the rubber tubes (2) meet the aluminum intake "under the H-6 plastic cover", if the rubber tubes don't seal completely it can stall, look or feel carefully it's easy to think there all the way on when there could be a leak.

Exactly. Once, after a T/B cleaning, I didn't get one of the hoses that vent the Valve cover back on to the plastic intaken (on the underside) tightly. I noticed the car was running a little rough on the way to work (figured it was just burning off the excess choke cleaner), but, when I got in the car to go to lunch, she'd start and die. Luckily, I found the problem quickly. :D The hose had popped off.
