broken sensor...

ok there is a 2 wire sensor directly under the black box with a yellow cap saying power steering, the sensor is connected to a rail, one of the wires has come out of the sensor and if i touch the wire to a grounded area such as the intake manifold it raises my rpms and makes a hissing noise from the black box above it, anyone know what this sensor is??

i have looked further and it may be a coolant temp sensor, this sensor hasnt sent a CEL, could this sensor also cause some other problems for idling and ect?

The coolant temp sensor is at the opposite corner of the engine.

From the vague description it sounds like the sensor for the power steering system. I just took a quick look in my basement, is it a green/white and black/white wire.

yes, your correct, it does look just like the coolant temp sensor though

anyone know if i can remove this sensor?? is it under pressure?

Hocrest 10-01-2007 06:58 PM

If you remove it, some fluid will drain out. Just lay a rag under there to catch it.

If you want to minimize the leakage, use a turkey baster to empty the reservoir first.

i read that this switch also controls my idle so my car doesnt stall, and there isnt a trouble code for this sensor.... hmmm it has been idling around 120 rpm.....

cruisen_15 10-01-2007 10:00 PM

fixed the sensor and saw no change, if anything it seemed a little easier to turn......

Idling is usually controlled by the IAC (Idle-Air Control) valve. A dirty one can cause bad idling.

i cleaned that with throttle cleaner, when the engine is hot the tub that goes into the middle right hand side of the black airbox connected to the TB's has a vacum to it, i can barly blow any air into it, and i pulled the tube connected to my tb's it killed the engine cuzz it sounds like it has extreme vacum...
