Console disassembly

Anybody know how to remove and disassemble the console? I need to replace the storage compartment latch.

Thanks.

Nick

P.S. What's the official name for the dark blue-green paint they used on the '92's? It's almost exactly the same color as a 1967 Camero 350 SS I had in the old days.

That color is "Dark Teal". For more information on colors and options you can go to the following link: http://www.cars101.com/subaru_svx.html :)

To remove the console - pop the little plate underneath the parking brake with a screwdriver, place the blade in the notch and twist carefully. Remove all the junk from your console, take out the false bottom and remove 2 screws. Remove the 2 screws holding the parking brake handle on. There are 2 plastic trim pieces, one on each side of the console about where your knee hits when riding or driving, carefully pull this piece away from the middle-bottom (there are push/pull fasteners). Remove 2 screws that hold the console on (one on each side).

Cuss all you want taking that thing out. Remove electric lock power connector.

Remember to attach lock power connector before reassembly, otherwise it will rattle and cause you to repeat the above.

This is from memory, hope it helps....

you know, I was thinking about adding one to my 92, but then I realized that a power lock switch on the center console of a 2 door car, that automatically locks when the drivers door is locked, isn't really worth the time of the install.

I thought that before I got the car, but now, I hate turning around to lock it...i'd love one on the console.

So you guys with the "real" SVX's with 4WD and leather interior don't have a console lock button?

I've always felt insuffucient with my 2WD and vinyl interior, but I'll hold my head a little higher now.....
