a car more rare then a svx// my next car maybe

this is a glant VR4 AWD has the same powerplant in the dsm eclipse/talon/laser 4g63 210 hp and has AWS all wheel steering these are extremly hard to find and are extremly fast theres a few guys in florida here runing in the 13s and even in the 12s since its the same motor as the eclipse turbo u can do everything imginable to them, and push 500 hp and more ,with AWD and AWS imagine that in a 4 door, bringin the familey and pets along LOL

Fourplay

Solar

The newer model has a nicer shape. Also, a little bigger, and the upmarket engine is 2.5 litres. I think the output is in the region of 240 hp.

Reason I have an interest in them, in Japan, they come with an automatic transmission. I reckon it would be fun to get a crashed one, and donate the transmission, rear diff and all, to the SVX.

As it's handling the torque of a turboed engine, it should be able for the SVX's grunt, and then some. No more choclate trannies, paying out stupid sums every 40k miles.

Have not seen a crashed one yet though.

slight problem

I "think" the engine is transverse mounted, thusly it wouldnt work in our application. Our engine is mounted normally. (unless you want to change the engine orientation on the SVX)

svxistentialist 06-07-2002 12:52 AM

Good point

Chris.

I have never actually seen one, but you are probably correct.

So it is likely the only auto transmission that would work would be whatever Porsche use for the Tiptronic version of their Carrera 4.

And that's backways!!

Joe

solarsvx 06-07-2002 07:08 AM

yea its tranverse mounted unlike the svx svxist yea theres a new model out it comes twin turbo v6 not shure on specs and all the older version like the link i gave u u can buy here in the us and only came out for 2 years and produced a 1,000 total units not 100% on that . the only way they come is in stick no auto options. its AWD turbo with AWS

i was also reading in the paper yesterday the mitsu evo 7 is due out january with 270 hp so wrx look out looks like a new competion is in town not shure on selling price and all im shure its more,

just wish the svx had a new car coming out something that would turn every ones head and minds keep the same enigne, make it in a lighter car with AWD and stick the car would be fast

i think the svx has go now if they just lightened her up a bit put a stick in it, would be a nicer car , hence luxury gt kinda killed it with the auto and 4 tons of weight

So what you're saying is, 'if they took out the luxury items, it'd be a nicer car?'

In your book, maybe. I think Subaru built almost exactly what they set out to. Once again, it's not a dragster. It was never meant to be. I enjoy a five speed just as much as the next guy, but I think the auto in the SVX makes perfect sense.

Not every car built is meant to compete in the quarter mile. I understand that that's what you're into, but it's not the SVX's cup of tea. Without cupholders, it can't even have a cup of tea. :D

No offense intended, but I'm sick and tired of people complaining about the SVX being 'slow' or 'heavy' or complaining about the auto. It's not slow - as a matter of fact, it is very fast and safe at high speeds. Quick it is not, but plenty fast.

Lighten it up, force-feed the engine and put in a five speed. Now you want four doors. Yeah, do that. While you're at it, get rid of the split windows, take out the door for the stereo, replace the suede with fake carbon weave and, if you can, please make it a convertible.

Really, I don't mean to offend. I just love this car so much the way it is and I feel like some of you want to fit a square peg into a round hole or give Mona Lisa a nose job.

solarsvx 06-07-2002 08:30 AM

mr pockets im not offended, i never said the svx was slow im quite happy with its power and the hi speed on that car, its speed is only what other cars can dream of, kinda reminds me of autbahn car subaru knew what they where doing whene they built the car and there reasons for an auto

yes i know the subaru was never meant for the 1/4 mile no car is ever made for it. its a luxury gt car. something i read before performance like a porche refinments like a jag

the main purpose i bought the svx is for ,, no other car can compare to power looks and luxury of it , the svx gets more atention then anything i have ever driven before whene i bought it i wanted AWD nothing less and something with power the svx foot the bill

as for the galant were talking abought. i never compared the cars, i luv that car as much as the svx,, but i like the svx alot better

pockets never said 'if they took out the luxury items, it'd be a nicer car, it would be a nicer car if they had more options, u can always refine any car, and im not complaining in any sense

pockets its friday time to do some drinking, :D

The SVX is by no means slow, even off the line. Sure it could be faster, but 15.7 1/4 mile is VERY respectable for such a car. I mean, how many cars out there can hold you so comfortably and still smoke a V8 convertible Mustang (as I did at the track, I know know how, but I did :D )?

Of course it could be faster by putting in a stick and lightening the load, but then it wouldnt have the same class as it does now. Be happy with what you have, or get a different car. I'm with Pockets on this one to a certain extent. I would love to see highly modified engines in SVX's. Just dont mess around with the look of the car.

Anything you do, have fun, and keep a respectable persona about yourself. We have a rare car, and we have to stick together.

My $5. (little long)

:D

P.S. Lwin just helped me install the reverse indiglo gauges. Check my locker for pics later tonight or tomorrow.

its the car for the racing family. My friend had one, very nice car, fun to drive, fun to roach all 4 tires at the same time :D

i say get a 3000gt vr-4, much faster :D

solarsvx 06-07-2002 09:41 AM

yea ever clear 3000gtvr4 are nice rides

bawana i ran 15.4 @ 92 with a crappy 2.30 60" time
2 months back was on stock tires cold night it should do alittle quiker if throw some 104 octane in there cold night and a better launch im wanting a 15 flat but i doubt it,, just FYI

Bwana 06-07-2002 10:04 AM

Yeah, i was on pump gas, and it was like 60 degrees, so not that cold. my 60' was 2.417.

solarsvx 06-07-2002 10:10 AM

bwana did u power brake or anything to get a better launch, u can run 107 octane forgot what they called it, it even helps the enigne, more pure gas cleans injectors and all just dont run it every day u do 50/50 mix on pump gas

The shop I used to take my car to in Vermont built rally cars. Some of his employees had Galant VR4s and the shop owns a rally-modified VR4.

They were all rarin' to get WRXs when I left. The shop owned a few that the owner imported.

Bwana 06-07-2002 12:21 PM

Yea, i did a brake start at about 2000 RPM. I had the shifter in '1' and the tranny resistor plugged in.
