Will it strain my alternator?
 

As some of you know, I recently went a little louder with my car. I read the whole alternator wire thing saying that you guys had put thicker wires from the alt. to the batt. My question is, if it improvs the power to the battery from the alternator, will it also create a harder draw on the alternator with a digital 1100 watt amp? I know I need a cap and/or a yellow top battery, but I don't have the money right now due to car insurance and registration legalities. Does it make sense that it will make the amp more efficient and create an easier power flow, but become a harder draw from the alternator, or will my battery eat a lot of the hit, also what is the stock output for the anternator in our cars? Thanks guys.

You may also want to search on this site.:) There have been some recent posts that suggest this wire modification does nothing. The post tells you how to test for the voltage increase.

why the hell does shotsky not come here, he has a miriad of info that is valuable to us all, and I personally go nowhere near yahoo anymore...

I can attest that the "Shotsky Fix" works. I did the cable upgrades (4 ga. fr. battery --> chassis, battery --> alternator) and a 'RedTop' Optima battery. I know the battery was probably the best 'fix', but the few dollars you spend to upgrade the cables assures you have virtually no voltage drop (loss) across your cabling. It's a series of small fixes that add up to make an SVX alternator finally work satisfactory.
