hose nipple?

If you look at the engine bay from the passenger side, between the trans and differential, right below the fire wall, I can see a hose nipple on top of the transmission. should something be connected to it? I'll try to post a photo.

If I am thinking of the same spot it is just a plastic sleeve covering a long screw I believe

There are supposed to be two breather lines on the top of the transmission that are supposed to be open to air, but pointing down (or down-ish) at the open end so as not to suck in any dust. It sounds to me like your hose broke off. Post a pic to be sure though.

Open "svx92-94_parts_5trans.pdf", then go to page 126. You're missing part # 18.

There are supposed to be two breather hoses, the other one is on page 146. Double check that you have that one too. It's probably more visible from the driver's side.

You don't necessarily need to have those exact lines, shaped exactly that way, but you do need a line attached to each fitting, with the other end pointing downward.

The purpose of the breathers is to allow the trans to release pressure, but not allow dirt, water, and other crap into the trans. So it's not a super urgent thing to fix, but definitely worth fixing.
