Options for alternative cars

I am looking for some feedback on some cars. My last straw has broken, every time I try to fix my SVX, I end up breaking bolts and have to order parts from Colorado because the local Subaru dealerships carry nothing anymore. The alternative is to pay through the nose to have Subaru fix it. They wanted $350 for an alternator change. Come on the car can't be this expensive to work on? Anyway I live my car so much so that I am having a hard time coming to terms with trading it in but I need something more reliable. I have about $17, 500 available and was looking to get a Volvo C70. Do you think that it will hold up to the SVX's rep? Any other ideas welcome.

Hi,

What about another subaru? Something less exotic. When I was in High School my mom had a 740 turbo, the thing was nothing like the SVX, I actually thought it drove more like a Suburban han a car, not bad on the highway, but horible when it got twisty, of course I prefer BMW's.

I have an '88 BMW 325is that I've had for 36,000 trouble free miles, all I've ever done to it was regular maintnence, but $17,500 wont get you an All wheel drive car that's new, they offered one in the late 80's, but that's an older car now and may not hold up if it wasn't maintained.

I've heard good things about the new Audi A4 and A6 too, sorry to see you're leaving the SVX world, but I cant blame you, I wouldnt have it as my primary car with 2 week waits for parts.

I had this guy telling me about how bad ass his c class compact was, how fast it was, how he drove tt for 3 hors at 135MPH without stoping for gas:eek:, he was starting to iritate me because I knew he was lying, so I said Yeah, I've got an M3... He shut up, not another word:cool: :p :D sadly not enough people know enough about the SVX to impress them with it unless they see it:(

I have a hard time believing a c-class could (Edit: safely) sustain 135 for three hours without stopping for gas.

I would get a legacy only a member of my family just leased a GT and I drove it. It has no power.:( I used to own an old Subaru wagon that was also lacking in power and I just don't want to go back:rolleyes: Unless I spend an additional $3000 for a turbo. Of course then Subaru would really charge me alot to work on it. I went and looked at the Volvo today and It didn't speak to me. No matter how mant times Volvo reviews state that it is a curvy new car it is still a box when one is parked next to my SVX. Make that a large box.

Thanks for the info, Blue

I know what you mean about the Volvo mystique. They must still have Birkenstock holders somewhere in the trunk no matter how they sexify them.

And I know what you mean about mentioning,"Iwonder how it would stack up against my M?" More non Bimmer owners know about the M's than Bimmer owners. when I say, Oh I have one too, an M, I get a blank stare from the "I own a Bimmer because it's presitigious" crowd.

They're presitigious? 1949 Willies Jeepster, that car got 10 times the comments the SVX got, couldn't drive it 20 miles without someone saying something about it... BMW is just a reliable way to get arround without driving a box, if they bought a Bavarian Mud Wagen for prestiege they should have purchaced a Rolls Royce or a Lamborgini, but then again I have over 20 BMW's and am tired of looking at them... A BMW is possibly the best sports car ever, reliable and seats the family, the greatest thing about people who buy BMW's to impress their friends is the used BMW that gets sold for peanuts;) I have actually had people tell me to take their old BMW away FREE, they couldn't sell it:D

Anyone else want the soap box? I'm done for now
