Smokies II

I thought I'd use the occasion of post #500 to remind everyone of Springtime in the Smokies II. The dates this year are tentatively set for March 22 - 24. I realize that's kind of one the tag end of Spring, but maybe it will still qualify.

For the scenic tour, I'm considering driving up to historic Rugby. Rugby was a utopian community founded by the second sons of English nobility. As second sons, they inherited neither the title nor the estate, so a group of them emigrated to the US and set up Rugby. Unfortunately, life on the frontier was more demanding than they expected, and the colony ultimately failed. However, they left behind a great collection of Victorian structures, still preserved in place. So that's one possibility.

Another choice might be to tour Cade's Cove. This is in the Smokie Mountains National Park, and features the largest collection of 19th century log structures, still on their original sites. There's an 11 mile loop (very slow driving) and an interpretive center. Beautiful scenery, HUGE herds of deer.

The registration table is open. Let me know if you're interested, and share your thoughts on what you'd like to see.
