lever to the trunk (???)
How do I fix the lever that opens the trunk of the svx? When I pull the lever it does nothing accept come up. The trunk lid will not release. I believe I have a faulty cable, but I am not sure. Has anyone repaired this before?
I also have trouble using my original keys to unlock the trunk. I realized I had this issue while it was cold out with my pearlie. I then purchased another svx and as it turns out this key will not open unless I wiggle the key as well as the release button will not do so. |
Read this, http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=37452 especially the 8th reply.
There is an "Opener cancel" switch on the trunk latch, hopefully thats the problem. |
That happens more than you can imagine. That is so easy to have happen and so frustrating when it won't work all of a sudden. There have been members who have fixed their cars after years of not having them work after reading posts like this one. :D :D
The easiest description that I use is --- Operator Error  :) :) ;) |

Thanks Hocrest, I feel dumb now, I shuold have known that....Thanks for aiming me to the right thread. :D :D |
Don't feel bad, that happens a lot. :) :)

even with that cancel switch, mine doesn't open so it looks like a prob..not the first time I read about this from SVX owners.
I'm waiting for summer time to check it out, for the moment, I haven't been using the trunk since I got it in october |
You don't want it to be in the Cancel position. :o If it doesn't work, what seems to be the problem? :)

On my SVXi, the trunk doesn't "pop" up like it does on some cars I've had when I pull the release lever. The lever is releasing, but it doesn't seem like it. I've replaced the trunk struts with known good ones and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Its probably just the weight of the trunklid, especially if you have a spoiler.
When I had my pearlie (no spoiler) and released the trunk lid, it just barely moved. It was very easy to raise and lower with just two fingers. On my 96 Polo (with spoiler) releasing the trunk does not allow the trunklid to pop up. I have brand new struts and even though I know the trunk has been released, from the outside you would never know it. I think the strength of the struts was factored for the weight of the trunk without a spoiler. And on any cars I have owned where the trunklid did pop up a little, the hinges had either coil or torsion bar springs to help it. On hatchbacks, or anything with struts, the trunklid did not automatically raise when released. . |
I bought my SVX new. The trunk has never popped up at all. It has the spoiler.
In fact, fairly early on I thought it was mis-adjusted, because it seemed to take too much effort to open. I discovered that it's somewhat easier to open by grabbing the ledge just above the license plate than trying to push up by the spoiler. |
The trunk lid on my teal, sans wing, has never "popped" either, even with new gas struts.

Some of you may want to spray silicon grease on your latches...I had a Legacy that the hood latch was seized up from salt during the winter and the hood wouldn't latch....Trunk did the same thing a few years later...Just make sure your latches spring back.
