What's a reasonable labor estimate for replacing these parts:
 

A good mechanic friend of mine who has done prior work on my SVX has told me that he'll charge me $225 for the following work (labor only):

Replacing:
-timing belt
-water pump
-Tstat
-seals (cam & crank)
-radiator
-A/C tensioner pulley bearings
-oil pump O-ring

What do you guys think? Is $225 reasonable?

Long as he knows what he is doing then yes, cause I paid a Major Suby dealership here in florida to do the same thing and spent $1000 just so the next night my engine could blow with no help at all from the dealer...SO yes i would say that is a very very good price....

Reasonable? You're robbing the poor guy. I had all that stuff done, except the radiator, bearings and oil pump o-ring --- oh, instead, I had one valve cover gasket set replaced -- it cost me 800+ bucks and I bought the parts!

Jump on it (if he actually sticks to it after getting into the work), then, buy the guy a six pack (of his favorite soft drink or frosty adult beverage) just so's you won't feel TOO guilty. :D

Heh, great! Atleast I know that he's honest. He's actually going to charge me $250, but he's going to change my rear differential fluid too. :)

Last night I spent several hours gathering up a bunch of posts by fellow members for him to read. Hopefully he reads 'em. I'll report back on how well he does. Maybe I'm grooming a future SVX expert mechanic for So. Cal.:D

My mechanic would charge $200 for it flat rate as he does for any subie. That's based on $40 an hour for 5 hours. Yours sounds like $50 an hour. So long as he's qualified to do it you should be fine. One thing of note though if he's letting you bring your own parts does he still provide a warranty as most places don't.

That's a good question. I'll have to ask him about that. But I'm pretty sure that he'd redo the repair if a part broke prematurely, say within 90 days. But that's just a guess. I'll have to nail him down on a specific time period.

Update:

My mechanic ended up charging me $290 for the following labor and fluids:

1. Radiator replaced (coolant included)
2. Engine oil and filter change (filter and oil included)
3. Rear differential oil changed (oil included)
4. Water pump replaced
5. Oil pump o-ring replaced
6. crank and cam seals (3 total seals) replaced
7. PCV valve replaced
8. Timing belt replaced
9. A/C tensioner pulley replaced (pulled then re-installed after I installed the new 6202 bearing)
10. Thermostat replaced

$65 more than I thought I was going to pay but judging from what you guys said, I think $290 is reasonable. ;)

You made out like a bandit! It's worth 290.00 in labor for the PCV valve alone! ;) I'd drop by the guy's shop with a six pack of imported, if I were you. Or, if he's not a beer drinker, his favorite soft drink. Congrats!
