Smoke, but only once a week

Ok, here is something odd. About 3 weeks ago, I put in my new knock sensors. As soon as I tested it out, my idle was horribly rough, and as soon as I parked, some smoke was coming out of the engine. I checked into it, but there wasnt really anyhting to be seen. The smoke went away, and the idle was fine. But about a week later, after a short trip...more smoke. Also, the rough idle returned, but I have written that off to a dirty TPS (Also, my revs start out extremely high, and then drop extremely low, so I will be cleaning the TPS very soon). I checked again for the source of the smoke, and it seemed to be concentrated on the passenger side of the engine. It wasnt lots of smoke, but it was black, and enough for me to notice it. So then it went away again, no more smoke, and I figured everythign was cool. But today, I made another short trip, and a small amount of smoke returned, coming from the passenger side of the engine again. I drive my SVX as a daily commuter, so how come it only smokes about once a week? What could be causing this? It hasnt been overheating or anything even close, even after I made a 100 mile trip. Does anyone know what to think here?
