great now the car doesnt start

This car is driving me up the god damn wall!!! Its been sitting in the garage for basically 4 days with only having driven 2 miles on it because of the exhaust issue. Now the car doesnt wanna start. More than enough juice from the battery but no start. This always happens when the car doesnt get driven for a few days...its always hard to start but it always eventually starts. This time it won't. What the hell do i do now? I had put some gas treat ment and isopropyl in the tank to prevent gasline freeze up. I have a little less than half a tank of gas in there right now. This is really pissing me off....my new insurance starts monday and what a way to start...with a tow to the shop

should i disconnect the battery now and then try again in the morning?

TomsSVX 11-26-2005 07:23 PM

what do u mean it won't start... it cranks over but doesn't fire?? or the starter just doesn't engage??

It cranks but no start. The radio, lights and everything works fine. No lights dim so its not the battery. It just cranks and cranks and i get no engine start.

Check to make sure the ECU and TCU plugs are all in an secure... Then check the ignitor on the firewall behind the throttle body... make sure the two plugs are also securely in. Let me know where it goes from there... I have a bad feeling it may be a fuel related issue...maybe ur pump went bad but I doubt it

Tom its definitley related to the cold weather and the fact that the car hasn't been in use for 4 days. The same thing happened to me 2 years ago when it was very cold out. Ended up towing it to the shop...they got it started there. I dont know why some people can store their car for months and start it right up with no problem...yet if mine sits for a day it wont start easily the next day.

Maybe more dry gas will help?

You have tried flooring the gas pedal during cranking right? My SVX has been getting harder and harder to start without using the gas pedal. If mine fails to start the first time, I usually have to go 1/2 to full down on the gas pedal to get it started.

Yes i have tried that....it sounds like its going to start...then rumbles and then nothing. I didnt want to do it too many times because i feared something bad might happen. I disconnected the battery to reset the ECU just to see what happens tomorrow morning. If it doesnt start tomorrow I am in deep ****.

you should never need to hit the gas while trying to start the car... that is a sign of something wrong right there... besides that... Make sure those electrical connections are good when u re-connect the battery

Even the manual says on cold mornings you may need to do this.

Finally after an hour of tryina get this damn thing to start i got it too. It is now warming up in the garage. I have a little less than a half tank in there....im going to go fill it up with 93 and add a bottle of isopropyl to the tank as well. I just hope to God it will start fine after that. Smells really rich in the garage

TomsSVX 11-27-2005 09:32 AM

it will smell rich after unplugging the ECU for extended periods... it is balancing out the AFR... Good luck Tom

Ohhhh ok that makes sense now. I took the car out for a drive...went maybe 5-10 miles. No problems with driving it. Just the exhaust issue which I hope to get corrected this week. Filled her up with 93 and I will buy a bottle of gas treatment before I go to work.

Since 2001 +, with the experiences of my teal one, I have not used the pedal to start my car. :p Because I don't need to and even if I leave my svx for 3 weeks in cold weather........... I don't have garage too. :)
