I think there are 2 different types for the SVX but not sure if that makes a difference.

The parts of the rack that matter are identical. The speed sensitive just have a solenoid fitted to adjust pressure. This would require one extra o-ring that could probably be matched easy enough should it be missing.

That's a bit cheaper than the one I bought:

I did both the rack and the pump at the same time.

Did u need special tools to rebuild it?

Re: Steering rack rebuild kit?

Nope, you just need to be creative with common tools ;)

I honestly can't remember. I brought it to a mechanic friend and he helped me with it. It's nice to have a lift to get the rack out of the vehicle!
and don't forget to tighten ALL the power steering lines before starting the car. (learned that the hard way with over a quart of synthetic ATF on the floor!)

Ha, I did the same thing. Forgot one clamp and it just gushed right out.

Re: Steering rack rebuild kit?

I've had my rack rebuilt by someone many moons ago but lately I've been noticing some play in the steering wheel. The tie rod ends are new so that's not the culprit and I don't *think* a typical rack & pinion doesn't have means of removing lash from the unit (like a typical steering box).

Re: Steering rack rebuild kit?

So got my kit from rock auto. Gonna rebuild it tomorrow I was wondering if anyone has info on how to rebuild it? or a link to the service manual?

Thanks :)

take pics or video and share it with us.
BTW, I added 1/8 of Lucas power steering fluid and I think it increased the system presure because now I' ve smaaall leak on the O-ring of the main pressure in port. Not too bad but I hate when my car drops oil, specially on my drive way! ;)

Yes sir. But I had a mechanic helping!
Did you use ALL the seals and o rings in the kit? And did you have everything lubed up good before putting it back together?
