Pictures of my NEW Camshafts

Yup by new, meaning BRAND NEW and NOT welded/reground

I never trusted reground cams, always thought the welded part will eventually shatter and destroy the rest of the engine. Simply didn't want to gamble with this.

So I kept looking for a manufacturer who can fab new ones for me at a reasonable price and I succeeded!

Here you can see the OEM set:

And here are the new cams (took the shots of one Intake and one Exhaust). N-joy!:

Re: Pictures of my NEW Camshafts

The real questions then:

Approximately how much did they cost?

What sort of cam specs are they ground to?

Re: Pictures of my NEW Camshafts

Thanks Ron!

Bob, those cams costed me $1550 shipped.
Compared to the welded/reground cams of Webcams, I say I got one hell of a deal. And no, those were not made in the US.

I will not disclose the profile for now except for the 11mm lift. I know everybody will not agree to its duration, but I have my own belief and a specific use for it.

Re: Pictures of my NEW Camshafts

So what are they made of? And how long did it take to have them made?

Re: Pictures of my NEW Camshafts

They are made of 42CrMo4 which is an alloy equal to AISI 4140.

I sent them to one manufacturer first and he gave me hell with the time to start the job. Waited a year... then sent them again to Polish Manufacturer and tried to negotiate a better pricing, but since demand for the SVX is much much less than other cars, the price was high but $200 less than the first manufacturer.

Anyways if someone wishes to have a set, let him contact me and I will hook you up. I mentioned the subject to them and they want to deal with one person only for the SVX, so they appointed me.

Others can choose whatever profile they want for their SVXi ;)

Danny,

I see a clip and plug in the end of the cam :)
The cams are rifle-drilled!?
How much lighter are these cams compared to stock cams?

Fair enough, I won't pry into the cam specifics. I'm certainly very impressed with the price point, and they look well-made.

Would they provide only finished cams or would they do semi-finished as well? In other words, so I could have them ground here to my specs and base circle diameter. I just feel more comfortable dealing with '@.020" and @.050" duration numbers' rather than the European standards (advertised duration and lift @ TDC).

:D:D:D Ron you dawg you noticed hein? :p

to be frank with you, I never compared the two weight-wise...
But 500grams~750grams is a great weight reduction when talking about 2~3 kilo cam.

I will ask them for you Bob. But the measurements are standard, 0.05" valve lift = 1.27mm valve lift. Just convert to mm and they will do it easy for you.

Whatever you want me to ask them, let me know. Do you need cores? Heat treated? etc... please specify.
