smoke on start up.

hey whats up every one in the svx network. i have a few questions that im sure a few of you could answer. first. what would cause my svx to smoke on start up and smoke a lil bit when i get on it is it because my rings are bad or do i have bad valves. it started after the water pump froze up and it overheated. and can some one also tell me what would cause it to kinda stall out when im getting on it. it will only stall out when it shifts in the next gear. it does a blugh kinda shift and then it catches right back up. i dont like it and it kinda worrys me. if some one could please help me out with these few things i would greatly appreciate it. thank you very much for your time conserning this matter. nowels formerly of utah. now in FLORIDA

what color is the smoke? Is there oil in the coolant? What about coolant in the oil? How many miles? Have the plugs been changed?

the smoke is a white color it smell kinda humid. and theres no oil in the radioator and no water in my oil. it's got 136,000 and yes i just recently changed the plugs. i put some ring seal in it from autozone it helpped a little but it still happens some times.

Re: smoke on start up.

well if im not mistaken white smoke is generally coolant which would indicate that when you overheated you either roasted a headgasket or warped one of your heads. Just cause you dont have oil in your coolant or vice versa doesnt mean that you couldnt have toasted something in the head gasket/ head area. I"ll wait for one of the experts to jump in but thats what i would go with. I would try to do a leakdown test and see if you are losing compression on one of the cylinders if that is something you are capable of doing. Sorry to hear of your misfortune :(

Re: smoke on start up...catch can?

Just developed the same problem..
Did a few to the floor to 6000 ..6500 rpm..3 gear runs..
ran smooth as silk.. no (over)heating problems..
Next morning start up.. blue smoke (oil) for 30 + seconds..
cleared out ran great as usual.
Same situation returning from work 8 hrs later.
Only smokes on startup..
Wondering if the catch can could be the problem .
?
Comments?

Thanks
Ian

Re: smoke on start up...catch can?

If this is subtle; boxers will smoke a little on startup, because the cylinders are horizontal and rings aren't necesarily water-tight. If it's a lot, you may have bad rings.
Best of luck, either way!
