Where is the Seatbelt sensor?

Driver’s side seatbelt finally stopped working. After looking through the posts this seems like a frequent problem. Mine had some glitches a while back but I thought I fixed it. Now it:
•Stays in the up position
•Seatbelt light blinks constantly
•I manually cranked it back but as soon as I open the door it
goes back into the up position.

I seems like the sensor that tells it that the door is closed is not making a connection. Where is this sensor? Is it in the door at the latch or is it in the rear panel near the motor for the belt system?

Thanks for the help.

I just found 96svxer's long thread about what he did. This does not look cool. I just had a baby boy (wife actually had it) Friday and my time and money are low.

This is not cool... I also just got it back from the shop with the backforing problem that it was having and they can't figure it out. It goes to a Subie specialist on Tuesday.

But hey... The car looks great. Just let it sit in the driveway and not crank it or try to use the seatbelts.

There is a way to check seatbelt error codes. Go to http://svx-iw.com and click on Codes.

People actually read my posts? Well you may be in luck. If I read your post right it looks like the seatbelt gets stuck in the position nearest your windshield. If so I would guess that switch is the problem. And that switch is the easiest to get to and replace. I would of course check your codes first, and pray it's not the back ones. Let me know if you need any further help.

Check codes

Will check codes. I hope it's not the ECU. It was going to be the main baby transportation but now it's my parents spare 88 Bonneville SSE.

I'll let you all know what the codes tell me.

Code 14

Hey 96svxer and others,

I ran the codes and code 14 popped up (rear limiting switch ON). How do I remove the switch from the track? I took the large bolt off and it slides up and down slightly but still can't figure out how to remove it.

Humpf! Thanks for all the help. You guys have gotten me this far!

P.S. The pics in the lockers have been helpful as well.

Had the same problem you did removing it. It's been nearly a year since I did mine but I beleive the track (the metal cable) is still attached, and thats whats holding it on. You will see some brass colored Pins, 1 large pin in the center, and one smaller pin on the bottom left. These pins have U-clips on the back side of them which hold them "on." The smaller pin you can pull the U-clip and remove the pin. This I believe will free the track from the switches and after alittle jiggling will break free and a small plastic piece will fall down.. The larger pin is actually the pivot in which the switches rotate. What ever you do do not do what I did and remove the larger Pin! Your switches will be $%^&*(^ and you wont like it. After you remove the smaller pin, a little black pieve of plastic slides down, if you look where the larger brass pin is you can see there's a little "hook" there you have to pull the switch sideways off the hook then down. Kinda confusing but if you look at it long enough you will know what I mean. Let me know.

Thanks for the post. Ignor the one just past yours. It must have posted just after yours. I'll give it a try!
