Checked out the Tribeca today...
The local dealer had a bbq tonight to intro the new model. SO I got my first in person look at it.
Hmmmmm.....the front end styling has yet to really grow on me. I think it's the grille mostly. As for the rest - I'm OK with it. If I had plenty of discretionary income and a family with several kids I'd probably buy one. Persoanally I'd take the LL Bean Outback for the money. They had one Tribeca there that finally crossed the 40 thousand line. Whoa! The best part of the new model is the interior. The way the dashboard wraps around the doors and the console reminds me of the SVX. It all looks very high-tech, very highly finished, high quality. Damn...it also leads me to think, what if?? What if there was still an SVX in the Subaru lineup? Can you imagine what a cool car that would be with nearly 15 years of development?? |

I think he might have been talking about price. I saw the tribeca in person too and it doesnt look TOO bad...i think once you get over the front end its ok.

I suppose it's the same reaction people had in '92 when they saw 30 grand for a Subaru? Honestly, comparing that 40 grand Tribeca to similar vehicles it's probably not a bad buy for the performance and what you get. I think it was Car & Driver? that was comparing it favorably to a more expensive BMW X5. Thing was, just eyeballing a 32 grand Tribeca and a 40, I couldn't tell the difference. Oh well, when you're over 30, what's 8 thousand ? ;) |
The front does look like a frog.
I never got inside it but I did take a good look through the windows. |

Maybe when Zapatinas thought of Subaru as an all terrain automobile, he thought amphibian, so then he thought frog.:p

i saw one today at the dealer, and it really isn't as bad in person - not that *i'd* buy one. if the wife wanted one for her car, sure. (although i'd try to point her toward the FXT..... :D )
for an SUV, its OK, but that look does NOT translate well to the new Impreza, however. |

It's funny, but with the exception of the new Legacy, it seems that Subaru styling has entered the "it has to grow on you" stage.... :D BUT....I still prefer that to the ubiquitous Toyota/Nissan/Hyundai/et al look... |
Yeah, we got to check one out at the WBM. They are very nice inside, and there is alot of room in the back seats when they are slid back all the way. The one they had there was only a 5 seater so I didn't get to stuff myself into the third row. As a family of 4 I think it would be a great vehicle, DVD for the kids, Nav system so I won't get lost. I wish we had one to take to Florida in July.
The only thing is needs is a little more sack, I think a supercharger would be an ideal addition to it. I would have to get one in black thoe, it hides that hidious grill better. I wonder how the Saab version will look, and how much more there gonna get for them? |
id like to put that interior in the svx.
but the tribecca is difinatly on my car to buy after school list. the svx deserves a better life than my daily driver. |

you can buy the Saab 9-? (the WRX wagon) cheaper than the WRX wagon, as GM continues on its downhill slide....... the Saab's are going for like $18k new. |
why does saab bite off subaru designs? Something to do with GM ownership?

I liked the 9-2 front end better than the Subaru, but I remember them listing for more $$ than the WRX when they came out. They must be giving a heck of a discount. |
