so I am going to have him look at while his guys are working on the tires. Nonetheless, I am starving for knowledge on this car, so anything you can tell me would be awesome.

For the ABS sensor, you are correct that it only goes in one way, if you have the sensor properly seated and bolted in, it should be gapped properly, unless the sensor is damaged or the hub is pulled out from the spindle, but in that case, your bearing wouldn't be seated properly and you would know. If there are any problems with it, the ABS indicator will show on the dash, and I can let you know how to get the code.

As for the AWD, On some transmissions, I have heard that it does take a split second for the AWD to kick in properly when taking off on slick surfaces. So it may be that your AWD is not working, or maybe it's just a little sluggish? If they get the car on a lift to change the tires, put it in drive and see what happens.
