Tranny Issues

I have a 1992 SVX AWD, it just turned 103k and runs like new, I was driving down the highway the other day and the car made a jerking motion and started making a humming sound, I pulled off the highway and then the car would go in drive, making a whining sound, but no reverse. then when trying to load on a rollback to move not damaging anything else, the car even with the shifter in neutral was locked, car wouldn't budge! Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Obviously tranny issues of some sort, but I dont want to spend huge money on a tranny and not need it! Please I hope someone can help me!!!

Sounds like a differential died on you.

Ditto what David said. Other unlikely thing would be you haven't had rwd for a while and you broke an axle but that's reaching.

Welcome to the site. It does sound like what David mentioned. Good luck and I hope you can get this fixed. :)

Shop

I'm in NJ, I do automatic and manual transmission swaps for members. Just figured I'd throw that out there if you need it fixed.

My thread is here

Good luck with everything.

Hi,

We had this problem the first time our transmission died. The car could be rolled or even driven forwards but locked up completely when trying to move it backwards.

The explanation given to me by level 10 was that the planetary gears had overheated and welded themselves together. Fixing this costs extra on top of the normal transmission rebuild.
