1996 SVX on Autotrader

Hey, does anyone know about this car?

If I have time tomorrow I will try to drive it.

A little on the $$$ side but very nice, I'm sure the price is negotiable.

We'll see if Dennis chimes in....

I 'think' that might either be

A) His most recent SVX that ended up having some issues

or

B) One of the ones he looked at several months ago but ended up passing on because it too, had issues

:o

These cars are really getting to the age now that, even with low miles, if they haven't been carefully maintained, they are going to have surprises.

Not to say a car like the one in the ad is a bad deal, if the condition is as advertised and a good price can be haggled, just that the buyer should be someone willing and able to put possibly thousands more into it in the coming months/years to keep it running. It's still a good starting point (Perfect paint job, interior, newer parts...).

Dennis can definitely attest that it is no longer safe to spend $5-$8K on a pristine "looking" SVX and expect that you won't have to touch anything on it mechanically for years to come.

Re: 1996 SVX on Autotrader

Well, that one isnt my old one, mine was a 95. And I havent seen that one in person. Ive looked at in online a few times though, and indeed it does look nice.

As for the no longer safe to spend that much.... I would agree. When I picked up my 95, everyone thought it was going to be a good car, that it was going to last, having the low miles that it did. Well I did find out, that wasnt the case. The cars may look really clean, the one I picked up did. But problems started comming up within days of me getting it into my possession.

That is why I took the plunge, and just traded them both in on a new car. The last 8 months Ive been through more cars that I needed to. I should have just stuck with my Focus the first time around, considering Im back to it now. Obviously I wasnt supposed to have an SVX, and the Focus is the right car for me. I wish I could say different.... Ill always miss these cars.

But that wont stop me from comming to meets!! Ill just tag with people if they want to put up with me, lol.

Oh and on another note. My 95 sold to someone local here. My brother saw it in the Wal Mart parking lot the other night. But its someone elses nightmare now, Ive got a car that I dont need to worry about it not starting in the morning, and thats what matters to me. I guess Im just unlucky to pick the crap cars that need a bunch of work. I wonder where my 92 went though.... It will be EASY to spot since it has a 95 L interior, Ive been looking but cant find it, lol.

Re: 1996 SVX on Autotrader

I have to admit I miss my 92 Teal.....even with all the problems it had....and the expensive repairs I would have had to do....

Given that my car my be repo'd fairly soon (unless my attorney can stop it), I am looking for something else to drive before the repo :p

I saw this car a few days ago on-line but really didn't think much about it. I know they are expensive cars to maintain....and I would not pay $6k for the 96....I did dream....briefly.

Now my dreams are over-I hope. Now I am looking for a bimmer or a miata (or, to tell the truth, any car I can get a loan for :p).

Re: 1996 SVX on Autotrader

Howdy all,
I test drove a green '96 in Shoreline that is advertised in the Autotrader. It ran nicely, there was a little pulsation from the front rotors and no noticeable noise from the rear wheel bearings, BUTTT... The doors don't fit nicely and the trunk
moldings aren't fitted very well and this leads me to believe that the car has had some major body work. It is my opinion that if the doors could be made to fit correctly the dealer would have surely done this. Also the Carfax shows about
100,000 more miles than the dealer claims and the odometer reflects. I just can't risk the possibility that some shenanigans are going on.
My daughter is driving my red '96 LSi and my sons white '92 LSL was just stolen in Spokane. So He is looking and I am looking. We will also be looking for a parts car.

Chip.
