Replacing strut mounts soon, have some questions

I have the 4 newer struts and will be reusing my springs, but in addition to ordering the new strut mounts for the car, what additional components should I replace while I have the strut assemblies out of the car? I can look at a breakdown of the parts on subaruparts.com, but what should be replaced from that list?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Replacing strut mounts soon, have some questions

I think it would depend on condition, such as rust and other factors but the rubber pieces should not need to be replaced, the bolts usually would be reusable too I would think.

I thought some of the rubber pieces would have deteriorated that's why I ask. I was thinking while that assembly is taken apart, it would be ideal to replace ones that would fail.

I would certainly replace all rubber (cushion type parts), as you said they deterioate and lose their absorption ability over time. After almost 20 years I would imagine some rubber parts are incredibly brittle

Re: Replacing strut mounts soon, have some questions

If I remember correctly the helpers are the foamy cushions that slide down the strut shaft before you put the strut mounts on. get all 4 of them because they will be deteriorated/missing.

I thought the helpers were about the only rubber part that would be ok..can anyone confirm this if they've done strut work before?

I don't remember where I saw the video, but it was a different make of a car and the guy took his strut apart and he said the helper was perfectly fine.

When I took my struts out the rubber was all in decent shape, 2 of the 4 foam helpers were ok.

Hmm..that's another 80 bucks...prob 90 if I get the helpers. I'm on the fence on this one whether or not to buy them...Ok stupid question, but my struts have been modified with the koni inserts, do I still need the helpers regardless?
