I'm putting in a new engine!!
 

Thanks to everyone's advice on whether or not my '92 engine would be a straightforward drop into my '97.

My mechanic has been especially diligent in making sure it's do-able and he confirmed today after calls with Subaru Canada and the local dealer's chief mechanic who is an old friend of his, that it can be done. :)

He's started the donor motor (1st time in 5 years) and it ran well so the work is booked for Wednesday next week!!! Needless to say, I'm stoked.
