new here

Hi guys, im currently and owner of a 2004 wrx, my dad just bought a SVX which had a manual transmission swap from a legacy i believe, ill have to double check on the tranny, ive read a bit on them about how the A/T were very sluggish and bound to break and some of the rear bearings go bad, its a 1992 which im guessing is the worse year for them since it was the first, kinda like the 02 wrxs, so anyways i was just wondering what my dad is gonna be expecting to go wrong with the car, the engine has 40,000 miles on it and the chasis has around 72,000 i believe. thanks in advance:)

Welcome to the site. Your dad is going to enjoy his car very much. It is not as bad as whay you say about these cars. Maintenance is the main thing that should be done and kept up to date. If he has a 5 speed, there should not be all that much that he will have to do. :)

Welcome to the forums. With that fresh of a motor and chassis...there shouldnt be much wrong with it, Keep it maintained and it should keep going good. you may want to go over the 5 speed install the previous owner did just to make sure nothing was done poorly. Even simple stuff like the design of the crossmember and shift linkage add to how well the car drives. As far as all the other stuff, try searching for common matinence issues and things to look out for.
Just curious, did he buy the car from a member here?
I hope your dad has good luck with the car:)

Sounds like the Liquid Silver 5 speed that just sold on Ebay, is that the one? I had been watching it.

yup thats the one:)

as far as the tranny install, the guy was a subaru tech so im thinking he knew what he was doing, it has the wrx linkage and the kartboy short shifter, but ill look over all of that to make sure everything is clean

ive always liked the SVX, so im pretty excited myself for him to get it, ive always wanted to drive one

thanks for the input guys:)

That car's location was listed as Conshohocken Pennsylvania, is it going back to Michigan or is your Dad in the area? (Just curious.) I hope he likes it, from what the auction described it seemed like it needed a little bit of work, but for a SVX with the 5 speed conversion already done, I think it was a great price. Good Luck with it. :)

As far as the trouble areas, the rear wheel bearings tend go bad. The Rotors can warp with heavy braking. The radiators tend to crack on the top tank. The Automatic Transmissions die (but that won't be an issue on that car ;) ). Many of the other members can tell you more, I'm fairly new.

yea its coming back to michigan, there are some minor things that need to be fixed up but besides that it seems good, i guess we'll find out though, ive read about the rear wheel bearings going bad and the brakes, how is replacing the rear wheel bearings?

Some have used a Hub Tammer and others have given up and had a shop do it. Do a search and you will see lots of posts on it. :) :)

Re: new here

Hi again! Long time no see!

I actually tried to register again on here and found out i was already registered! I've come here in search of some tech info and found this. I'm actually going to spend the next few weeks fixing this car up. Though, to sell it. :(

Its been a good car and our family had fun with it. It was never driven as a daily and never in the winters. But it did sit around for the most part and didn't get the attention it deserved because everyone was busy. My dad owns a lot of cars, wants to unload a few and this is one he chose.

So now im going through it and doing anything i can to sell it for a decent price (im getting commission :)) and make sure its at least safe to drive. And hopefully the new owner will give it all the attention it deserves.

So, yeah, i came across this and thought it would be fun share. Ill update this thread with some pictures to show you what im working with. Its in good shape. Zero rust on the body, interior is very complete, just the passenger seat is pretty worn (i know, weird). Paint is in decent shape beside a few small dents. Its a great car and i hope it goes to the right owner.

Well thats all i can think of. Good night!
