replace plastic lever for remore trunk release

The top of the plastic lever cover broke so that it can't hold the cable to release the trunk lock. I have an entire remote trunk/gas door unit and I had planned on replacing the entire unit. However, I think I can just remove the plastic lever from the new unit and install the old cable into the new lever. Does anyone know how to remove the plastic lever? Does it just snap onto the metal swing arm? I don't want to break the new plastic lever just trying to prying it w/knowing what I'm doing.

You can't just pull it off, their is a small allen head bolt on the underside of the lever.

Iy doesn't just pull off. I tried that first because the plastic cover for the gas door did just pull off. I'll look for the allen screw but I didn't see when I first looked. I though that it might just have some type of clip that needed to be released.

.

It looks like it just pulls off. I don't see a reference for a screw.

ya I've taken mine off a few times, it didn't ever have a screw or anything only screws were to hold the outside part to the car not the actual tabs. Those are located one under the lever and one inside a little covered compartment on the back you get to by popping off the cover with a flathead. maybe they changed it in later years.... speaking of these though I lost the little one anyone have an extra? I might just go to a junk yard and grab one.

I have a full extra assembly, what exactly do you need?

I didn't see any screw but it doesn't just pull off. There must be a clip that is holding the plastic but I don't see where to pry it up to release the plastic. The gas door plastic did just slid off but I slid it back on and it also is now unmovable so there must be some thing holding them. I will have an extra gray gas door handle when I'm finished which you are welcome to.

I don't know if they changed it during the years but mine has a very tiny allenhead on both the trunk and fuel lever on the bottom most part of the handle. It's really hard to see.
