Clear Lenses...
All of us know how the SVX lenses like to yellow and get all funky. Well I've wanted to do this for a while but finally got the motivation to fix my lenses. So I figured I'd do a little write up.
I got everything I needed at Walmart and it didn't cost more than $50 and thats because I bought the Mothers Powerball. You'll need... 1500 grit sand paper, Bucket of water with mild dawn soap, rubbing compound, plastic polish, clean rags/ micro fiber, masking tape and a Powerball w/Drill. 1. First I started by masking off my headlight. 2.Lightly sand the headlight, making sure to keep the paper and headlight wet. Sand till the head light is soom and hazy. http://web.mac.com/gest24/iWeb/Site/...s/DSC01488.jpg 3.Then rub the rubbing compound onto the light to take up most of the haze. Buff with the powerball till the haze is pretty much all gone. 4.Now put the plastic polish on and buff off to bring the lense back to clear. http://web.mac.com/gest24/iWeb/Site/...s/DSC01489.jpg 5.Finally, I put some wax on to seal everything in. Now my lenses look good as new!:D |
how long did this take you. Man i Just got done buying some new lenes from Motorsports Warehouse. Hope they look good as your do
|

I did that to my Legacy lenses. Made them like brand new. I used #0000 steel wool and removed the lamps from the car so I could work on them a little bit more.

It does look good...
You thought of doing inside as well? PS: Is that the upgraded or better radiator hose? It works better?:D |

As for the hose, it was on the car when I bought it, lol. I can look through my receipts/ service records from the previous owner and see. I was thinking of swapping for Silicone all around. |

you bake 'em in the oven for a short time at low heat to seperate them - do a search for the specifics. |
Wow, that looks a lot like my car! (headlights, grille, hood badge, clear corners, paint color)
Your paint looks much nicer than mine though. Only differences are my car sits lower and has tinted windows. Yours looks great! Quote:

you have good taste! :D i don't have it anymore, though. seeing that pic makes me miss it. :( |
putting plastic in your oven that you use to cook
your food is really unsafe, just fyi. Plastic fumes etc posionious gas etc... They do look good, but generally over a few months time they will yellow again. Unless you possibly spray a coat of clear over them when you are done. And in all honesty, you can do the small car lenses in about an hour with the correct tools :) and they wont yellow on you anytime soon. |
