As you can see, she hit me right on the rear wheel. Now, my question is this: When I take it in to get it checked out, I want to make SURE she didn't damage this thing JUST cosmetically. I mean, this could possibly hurt the rear diff, the wheel bearing, the wheel hub, etc etc etc, hell, even the shock. The wheel doesn't noticeably look 'skewed' in any way.... so... >shrug<

Suggestions?

In my opinion, the hit doesn't look hard enough to have done any serious mechanical damage. (I think) a good body shop is at least going to include an alignment in the estimate, and when they do that alignment they'd find anything that was obviously broken.

Unfortunately, I think it's unlikely that you're going to get an in-depth examination of your car to determine if the wheel bearings or diff were harmed any.

In my experience, when somebody hits your car, you're never going to get it back exactly the way it was. There is always the possibility that there will be residual effects - like a wheel bearing failing a year later that was maybe brought more hastily to its demise by this accident.

But, hey, Lwin says that what comes around goes around, so that should make you feel better. ;)

Geez, Rob, from your original post I thought your fender had been destroyed. This is just a little ding.

Did you get her wipers? :D :D

And look on the bright side. At least she didn't get whoopee juice all over it.

Okay, maybe I was incorrect. I guess dings are those little dimples on the doors caused by others' carelessness.

Sorry I misspoke. Let me rephrase:

Geez, Rob, from your original post I thought your fender had been destroyed. This is just a little scrape. :D :D  ;)

I like how you made the impala an ugly box with those disgusting tail lights. Sorry dude, that stuff really sucks. Even if you don't have to pay for the reapairs, it is still a pain to deal with insurance and then wasting time getting it fixed.

I was hit by some lady in a very similar manner, only doing 70 mph and trashing the whole right side of my car. Good thing you took pictures. In my situation, her insurance company tried to blame the whole thing on me even though it was 100% her fault... having pics and clear damage that tells how the accident had to have occured, really helps with dealing with bullsh*t insurance companies. That, and the cop's viewpoint (w/ticket)... good call on gettin' the police out there. Good luck with gettin' her fixed. I think it looks light enough to be mechanically problem free.

My interesting dilemma it this: The past few times I've had to deal with other people's insurance companies, I've had absolutely no trouble. It's when I try to get anything out of mine, that I find it's like pulling hen's teeth.

Randy,

Who are you with? Nationwide just sent us a check for when their guy hit us while we were in the Outback a few weeks ago.

You ought to call my agent,"Shyster, Shyster, Shystyer & Muscle, Inc."
