Heatshields?

what can be done about getting alot of heat shield sound?

The easiest thing....remove them. Keep the shields around the cats because they get really hot. You can remove the rest...their just bolted on.

Bolted on? You must refer to SVX's driven below the snow belt.

My Illinois born SVX's heatshields weren't held together with bolts - they were held together with RUST. I just replaced the high flow cat this past weekend and both primary cat heatshields had three of the for bolt mount positions rusted clean off. Removing my precat heatshields was like shucking clams. The SVX sounds like a Jag V12 now that the rattles and exhaust leaks are gone (and through the Stebro).

I like the heat shields on the pipes between the engine and the first CAT. There is actually a piece of insulation under the heat shield to reduce the heat loss from the pipe. I did an insulation wrap on those pipes and cats. Then I put the heat shields back on. No way for the heat shields to rattle NOW. (see me locker)

Stainless steel hose clamps work great to hold the shields on too.

Oh i always was under the impression that the shields were bolted on.

Maybe initially but over time most exhaust components rust together.
