92 power steering - desparite for help

92 LSL PS problem. no assist when car is stopped. Steering wheel jerks back and forth. In motion it's OK. I've replaced the rack with a rebuilt one from a national rebuilder of racks. Had the pump rebuilt. Bought a new control valve
and a new check valve. The pressure at idle is 150 and at high RPM is 800+. I have not replaced the hoses.

I don't know what else to do and would greatly appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

Does it get better after being driven for a bit to get the air out of the system?

If air remains in the system, double-check the o-ring between the pump and the reservoir.

check the connection at your power steering pressure switch, i had this intermittently for a while and it turned out to be the switch that raises the idle when power steering is needed. i guess the switch was ok but the connection was bad.

I would put money on the O-Ring! :D

Thanks for the tips. I will take the reservoir off and check the seal. I have rotated the steering wheel left to right and back at least 20 times to bleed the system. I'm not sure how to tell if air is getting in, but i will be so glad if the
seal is the problem. I have already replaced the switch that comes off of the right side of the pump.

Moving it back and forth does nothing . You need to crack a line and make it pump fluid out . Unless that is what you are doing.

Crack a line??? Which one? I've always turned the steering wheel left and right on other vehicles.

I replaced the O ring between the pump and reservoir but it did not help. I noticed the fluid in the reservoir is foaming.

Anyone know of a good shop in Md, DC or VA.

When did you last change your power steering belt? I thought mine was good but my steering acted like yours. I replaced the belt and it was perfect.

My 94 pearl (with a translplanted 96 drivetrain) did the same thing. Replaced the infamous O-ring and it was good as new.

Try shooting some penetrating oil on the knuckle connecting the steering column to the rack... if it frees up... you found the problem
