tire size help

I've got a set of Lexus IS300 Sport Design wheels (17x7) on my car with the factory Lexus size tire of 215/45/17 on them. I want to change tires to a wider tire and I'm not sure what is best to get or what will even fit. I'm thinking 235/45 or 235/40. Does anybody know if these will fit without rubbing or harming something else?

Thanks,
Nate

What's the offset on the IS300 wheels?

chike, I'm looking for the offset of the IS wheels but haven't been able to find it. I'll let you know as soon as I do. Thanks for your help.

Watch the wheel width as that's more important to fitting a wider tire than the offset. I believe the IS uses a 7" wide wheel with a 35mm offset.

chike...

Hey, the wheel is a 17x7 50mm offset. Do you think I could fit 235/40 or 235/45's on there and not rub in the SVX? I know a 235 will fit the wheel because a couple people at the dealership I work at have a staggered wheel setup on their IS300's using 235's in the rear.

Thanks

Nate

235/45-17 is a bit wide for a 17x7" rim. I wouldn't run anything wider than a 225/45-17.

Agreed. 225/45 should be the largest you run on a 7" wide wheel. The offset is good though.

Tirerack lists manufacturers specifications for the tire they sell that give you a recommended rim width range for each tire size. Could be helpful in your hunt.
