I hear a noise....

When my tach hits approx 2000 rpm there is a harmonic sound like a reed instrument (high pitch oboe?) one note. Then again for a short time at 4000 rpm... sounds likes coming from under the hood.... it's very rpm dependent... 2000 and 4000...... any Ideas?

Thanks:confused:

My tranny (yeah, that's under the hood for the most part) started making a similar noise. Then it died.

I suspect that on my car the noise was either a symptom of the pump going bad or the pump being starved of fluid due to a blockage.

These are just guesses, and based on my car's symptoms. I have no expertise in trannies, of course. And since your noise is RPM-dependent (I think mine was, too), it could of course be something in the engine.

It seems to do it in neutral as well as under load.... that would seem to me to rule the Transmission down a few steps and it seems to be shifting well. When my other transmission died.. it made no sound....

It very well could be some of the heat shield that is loose and found a harmonic to vibrate at... but I haven't been able to get under and check it... (I'm hoping against hope that it's not the Tranny.......):(
