New Studded Rubber
Where's the snow..... I'm ready.
Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5's carbide studded 205/60R16 on 2005 Mustang rims. And yes, I'll be getting new center cap stickers. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...g?t=1258223350 http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...g?t=1258223648 http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...g?t=1258224214 http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...g?t=1258224538 |
Re: New Studded Rubber
That is one handsome set-up. Love the paint job.
Years ago I had some studley tires and in the rain it was like driving on ball bearings, but would love them for my South Dakota winters............ Bruce |
Re: New Studded Rubber
You do realize of course that studded tires are illegal in Ontario and hefty fines apply.
Oh, and 205/55/16 would be a more correct size. That being said, those are the best of the best. |

Re: New Studded Rubber
That's for Northern Ontario residents only. I don't think Barrie would be considered Northern Ontario but it's possible.
They've been illegal in the rest of Ontario for about 40 years. I can remember removing the studs from my Dad's tires when I was a kid. Not a fun job. |
Re: New Studded Rubber
Wow, 2005 Mustang rims eh? Ill have to remember that, i want a black pair for my Ebony..... it will give it that spyhunter look, I always loved knockoffs on rims!

Re: New Studded Rubber
Welllll, technically I would be "break'n da law" for my commute; for any place north of Parry Sound it's ok for the studs, but I'm 150 k's short of the cut off line. But from a common sense, safety, non-political stand point these are the right choice for my needs. At 4:00am on a very lonely ice and snow covered road, going through the white outs and frozen hell of Ontario farmland with no cell network, I think I need every advantage I can get including studs and an AWD SVX.
During the last half of last winter I was driving my 79 Supra......scary for sure. Then I bought a used set of Nokian 2's studded and man what a difference. It's like the comparing the traction of summer tires to winter tires, the same can be said for winter to winter studded tires........amazing. Almost full throttle on black ice with no slip. The trade off is road noise and less traction on dry pavement, also the car and tires are always dusty when things are dry, accelerating hard results in leaving a dusty fog behind and on the car, at first I thought I was burning oil out the exhaust. Anyway....let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Oh, stopping distance on the dry is not as good. Found out the hard way last week end when my front plate ate an Explorer trailer hitch; the bumper has some minor paint damage, the hitch had a good laugh, and I was ticked.......lesson learned; avoid looking in the mirror to see who's going to make a SVX sandwich just push harder on the brakes and pray. |
Re: New Studded Rubber
Studs were banned here but reinstated quite a few years ago, but only legal from mid Oct to mid April.
Have had Hakapolita I's on both cars and just bought Hakpolita V this year. Only trouble is after hearing the pop & crackle when driving away it makes me want to get some pop corn. |
Re: New Studded Rubber
That's the way it is in Oregon, they're legal from Nov 1st to April 1st, unless we have an unusually cold spring, then they'll extend it.
