Rx7 Wheel Warning!
 

Don't want to sound like an alarmist but...RX7 wheels may be a bit brittle. Had occasion to catch the corner of a curb pulling out of a parking space and it cracked one of the spokes on my rear wheel alll the way across and all the way through! The shop where I bought them specializes in preping/racing RX7s and they tell me that although the wheels are "forged", they are more accurately 'press' forged and so not as strong as a truely forged wheel. They are also at least ten years old and thus a bit brittle. So this word of caution...keep an eye on your RX7 wheels for stress fractures and other signs of damage/fatigue. What happened to me may have been a freak occurance, but better safe than sorry.

What I've found is Mazda put out two versions of the 3rd gen rim....the earlier version is definitely not as strong as the later version (yes, I've got one set of each). The earlier version weighs in at around 12#/rim, while the later version weighs in at around 15#/rim.

Mine weighed roughly 16lbs on my digital scale and they are in pristine condition. The guy I bought them from was the original owner, kept his RX-7 in a heated garage and only drove it in the summer.

Welcome to the broken wheel club. Sucks, doesn't it?

I rember reading about broken rx7 wheels, but i didnet know if it was false or not. Thanks for the info since i have kind of been looking at some.
