Other oddball cars we've owned
I was going through some photos the other day and came across some cars I'd owned in the past that were a little offbeat like the SVX. Two of my favorites were:
1985 Merkur XR4Ti (aka Ford Sierra) The car the Thunderbird should have been. 1987 Chevy Sprint Turbo (aka Suzuki Swift) Three cylinders of turbo charged, intercooled 1 liter fury What type of one-off vehicles have some of you owned. BTW, Mr. Pockets you have not yet bought the Justy, CVT AWD have you :D |

Ooooooooo. <rubbing hands together maniacally> :D |
Oddball? Dunno... A '53 Morris Minor convertible (neat roll-back canvas roof on rigid window frames). A '57 Buick Special stick shift (rare). A '66 Fiat 850 coupe, a '68 Fiat 124 Coupe, a '72 Opel Manta, '81 Plymouth (Mitsu) Champ with the "Twin-Stick". Also an assortment of American stuff thrown in between. And, of course, the SVX. Looks like my MO has been to buy cars that are "orphaned" about four years after I buy them. My life has been a constant search for scarce parts! Ron.

Here's my list
1967 SAAB Model 96 V-4 Monte Carlo 1969 Toyota Crown 1970 Olds Toronado SC 1978 Datsun 810 (forerunner of Maxima) 1988 Mitsubishi Galant Sigma Finally, 1997 Subaru SVX LSi (The last of the breed) Larry III |
My list is a rather long one (the SVX is my 41st car) Without going through the entire list Ill say that my favorite Corvette (out of 7) was my silver 1966 coupe with silver leather and the big tank (36 gallons) It was a 427/450 hp
Scattered in the list were other muscle cars, an early Chrysler 300-G, a 1969 TR-6 and I will confess reluctantly (and with much embarrassment) that a 1963 Renault Dauphine and 1966 English Ford Anglia once occupied my garage. With each of these cars I always wondered what my next one would be. I'm glad that I don't wonder about that anymore. If I have to add No. 42 to the list it will definitely be another SVX. . |
Sterling!
Not that I've owned any of the following, but here is my top 3 list of oddball cars I'd LIKE to to own:
1. 1991 Sterling SL Hatchback 5- speed (extremely rare!). These are the British Rover cars that used Acura drivetrains. Except for that, the cars were notoriously unreliable. 2. Merkur Scorpio. Speaking of them, I think they are awesome looking. They even had a power REAR seat! At the European Rally School in Florida, a Scorpio is their "beater" car for surveying the course. 3. Any Saab "Aero" or "Viggen" edition. Would love a new Saab 9-3 Viggen. Would give up the SVX for it  Jeff |
