what the f happened

So I just had the transmission replaced in my svx. I was driving down the highway and I hit a bump. Nothing out of the normal right? wrong, The car instantly shut off and now will not start. It's trying to turn over slowly and the check engine light is going crazy. No I havent tried checking the light yet but has anyone heard of this happening before? I'm just at a loss for words. Any insight that anyone may have for me to check out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Mike

Check your codes and check your battery terminals.

does the SVX have an impact fuel shut-off? I know I went over some nasty railroad tracks in my 98 Escort ZX2 and shut it off.

irishmade 05-28-2008 07:48 PM

the cables are fine i did check those. I'll check the codes in a min. I dont know if they have the shut off but if it does does anyone know how to switch that back over?

Check the cables around the starter aswell. When my '95 came back from the shop after having the tranny replaced they forgot to put on the ground that goes over the top bolt for the starter. The car would not turn over sometimes, and sometimes when the engine would turn it wouldn't start.

ok I tried checking the codes but it would not let me. The light just kept blinking like crazy. I believe that the starter is hooked up right but above the tranny there is a ground wire from the body with some type of clip on it that is not connected to anything. The wires that go from the starter to the battery are hooked up positivly. Is that other wire supposed to be connected to something?

A plastic clip or a metal bracket looking thing?

irishmade 05-28-2008 08:31 PM

it actually looks like a broken plastic clip

That wire is a ground for the engine systems,:) injectors/spark. It should plug on to the firewall below the Ignitors.

Harvey.

the wire is only like 3 inches long

There's your answer most likely. If its broken and wont stay plugged in try zip ties. Hopfully you can get it to stay in long enough to buy a new plug and splice it in.

There's gotta be somewhere for it to go. If it is the ground for the injectors/spark then it had to have been plugged in for you to be driving the car. Maybe somebody can get you a picture so you can see where its supposed to go.

irishmade 05-28-2008 08:41 PM

I'll go out and do some more looking but I could not find anywhere that it could plug into. Then again how well can you see into there engines anyway. Also when I turned the car on without trying to turn it over the fans were turning on and from under the hood all you could hear was clicking from the injectors. The smell of gas was also there.

call the shop and have them tow it in to fix whatever happened. it's clear that something wasn't put back correctly when they did the work. it's their error, have them make it right. that means they are responsible for properly towing it back to the shop, tracking down what happened, fixing it, and giving it back to you. all free of charge because it was their work that messed it up to begin with.

My only prob with that is I dont trust the garage anymore. It is a long time friend of mine that ownes a shop. It took him 3 weeks to just do the tranny swap and it came back worse than when it went in. I really dont want to bring any of my cars to him any more which is why I'm trying to figure it out on my own.
