AWS pic

For those of you who have the Road and track guide on page 48 there is a pic which shows the Jap spec AWS system. Maybe somebody with a scanner and the guide could upload this pic for everyone to see

Or, someone with the CD can just upload the Jpeg for that page.

DISCLAIMER: This is a picture of the "active" AWS system, not a representation of the "passive" AWS system which has been the fodder for controversey. :D

Yup, hard to take a picture of a non-existant system!:D :D

Seraph 07-20-2001 11:22 AM

We are talking active system on this one guys. not passive...
I can start another and newer thread on the passive system if you guys wish...
Lwin:D

I just posted this so someone can see all the differences in the two systems they are not at all alike you can see the Japanesse car has Tie rods a steering rack and it looks like there is a motor to turn the wheels. The US system just ever so slightly adjust camber to give the car better handling. but as far as steering systems goes the US car only turns the front wheels

Oh, gosh. How many times do I have to say this. Nobody ever said it was a "system." Merely a "passive" by-product of the suspension's design.

Hmmm...let's see if I can cut and paste your disclaimer...

"DISCLAIMER: This is a picture of the "active" AWS system, not a representation of the "passive" AWS system which has been the fodder for controversey."

So which is it big fella? A system or just a filament of yer imagination? :D :D HEY! I just figured out I have passive headlights too! They don't turn on by themselves, so they can't be active right!:D And my sunroof must be too, because it is just reacting to external forces when I press the switch to open it!:D I don't think I'll list all of the passive features on my SVX, the list would be way too long.

Seraph 07-20-2001 01:41 PM

God! Guys, I think we covered the issue on the passive AWS.
Don't you guys think it's enough already?

Lwin:rolleyes:

Lwin...do you really want to be on the don't help this guy list?:D We really *must* ask our grand high exalted poobah to start a new section called "SVX myths and legends".:D :D

Obviously not. Eddy just keeps digging. Obviously he doesn't understand "passive" as opposed to "active" in that "passive" means it happens whether you do anything or not. Passive headlights WOULD turn on by themselves. And, a Passive sunroof would open without intervention. Passive restraints restrain you without your having to strap them on. "Passive" is something you don't worry about, it just happens.

According to eddy, there is no possible way that "bushings" can effect "steering" and that steering can only be achieved with a steering wheel directing wheels and angling them. That the fact that the reaction of the bushings contained in our rear suspension could possibly cause the rear wheels to "steer" even ever so slightly -- though, I've shown contrary information from an engineer with the U.S. Army and another Subaru Senior Master Technician. So here we are, at it again. Oh well.

immortal_suby 07-20-2001 04:37 PM

I rode a skateboard once and when I leaned to one side the weight shift exerted a force on the bushings in the trucks which caused the bushings to distort slightly and angle the trucks enough to change the direction in which I was heading.

( ahhh - fuel for the fire :D )

pardon me while I duck for cover.

You might as well have stood over the fire with the bottle of Nitros and opened wide open.

I had a long winded retort to your (ahem) post. But for now I'm just going to sit back, have a toddy, greet the wife, feed the cats and chuckle about it. Re-read it please, and take a good look at what you just wrote.

What do you think about the SVX myths and legends area?:D

BTW, I notice that you conveniently ommited the explaination as to why in your disclaimer you called it a passive AWS *system*, care to comment?

KEVINL 07-20-2001 06:28 PM

I seriously regret posting this Will a moderator lock this thread please!

WHO GIVES A FLYING F**K?????????
