exhaust port dimensions?

Has anyone measured the exhaust port dimensions at the exhaust manifold mounting surface? Are the ports round, square, oval? Size?

I think Todd may have measured the ports on his SVX's engine. I don't believe the shop manuals have any decent pics in them.

PM SVXfiles. He just did an engine & tranny swap on his son's '96 SVX. The old engine should be sitting around and he might be able to measure the ports and take some pics...

As I remember they were 1.5 ", I'll pull the factory headers, and measure. Tom

1.5" Exhaust port size

Here's the pic I promised. The port is 1-1/2" in diameter. There are more pictures in boxer6's locker. Hope this helps.

BTW, there is also a shot in the locker of the best way to reach the (4) 12mm flywheel to torque converter bolts under the intake manifold after removing the alternator. Tom

Thanks Tom. Great pic!

Are the exhaust ports slightly oval shaped or a perfect circle?

this is amazing!!!!! I WAS JUST GOING TO POST THIS Question ...........so the internal dimension of the exhaust manifold is 1.5" ........what about the rest of the SVX's exhaust system?

Also ...anyone know how this 1.5" port size compares to other 6-cylinder engines?

THANKS!

Mychailo,

What are you up to now?:)

mbtoloczko 07-09-2004 11:30 AM

Thinking about headers. :-))

Chiketkd 07-09-2004 11:38 AM

With exhaust ports 1.5" in diameter, would an ideal header size be 1.75" or 2" for maximum flow w/o loss of useful backpressure?

Hi Tom. Thanks for the pic!

How about intake port dimension?

Not quite so easy Mychailo

The intake ports are strangely shaped.

Thanks!

I see what you mean...those intake ports do have an unusual shape to them.
