Computer help-PLEASE
I keep getting these pop-up error messages- Internet Explorer Script Error. It's like there is a problem reading the script, always on character 1 of line 812. Does anyone know anything about this? My 4 year old son Alex likes to delete programs for me. So maybe he got rid of an important one. Every internet session, I get like this message about 10 times and it is driving me crazy. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Also, I am getting DSL in my home. I current am running a Celeron 533 with 192MB RAM. Is now a good time to upgrade processors? I have been looking at those Motherboard/Processor combos. Is there anything else I should do at the same time? Thanks. Stephen |
Upgrade your browser to IE 6. That should fix it.
|
That did it. Thank you. You are indeed my hero.

Well now the script errors are gone, but I lose my internet connection now when I click "pay now" on ebay.
|
Hmm... that's very strange. Are you on dialup? Does it boot you off immediately or does your machine just hang or something?
|
Maybe they don't like your money! :D If it is green, it should be good. ;)
|
I am on dialup. Every time I get on ebay, I get a fatal error. It's not just when I try to pay. It's all the time now, sometimes right away, sometimes a minute later. Paypal too. Other than that, no problems. Is there something else I need to update to go with the IE 6.0?
BTW what is greem money? All my CCs are gray. Stephen |

That looks like a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) to me... is it big and Blue? If so go to windows update and DL (download) all critical updates and try again...
|
Well it looks to me like the program WCS2000 (CompuServe 2000) is the creating a problem in your kernel.
I would try using the internet without CompuServe running in the background. |
Thanks for all the help
I ran scandisk and 3 hours later it seems to be ok now. I went out and bought a new component system:
Athlon XP 2200+ Soyo SW-KT400 Dragonlite motherboard 80 GB 7200 rpm hard drive 512 MB RAM Arcade FX Geoforce2 MX 400 Video card DVD ROM CD-RW new tower with fans and power supply for $300(they screwed up and forgot to charge for the memory) That should get me on the right track for my DSL on Tuesday. There is a warehouse store that always blows everyone else away in price. It's called Fry's Electronics. I'm having a fun time trying to plug in the tower cables to the motherboard. They made it sound so easy.

and that stuff is all new in box? i'm looking for something cheap and fast for my home desktop and that sounds like a steal. lol...i have no fry's by me...and their website is horrid...if i were to possibly give you some cash, do you think you could get me a component system comparable to what you got...then ship it out to me? i'd cover all expenses, of course...just a thought!
|
Yeah, it's all new in box. But they actually didn't charge me for the hard drive(I thought it was the memory), so I saved about $60. It was like $90 minus $30 rebate. Their selection is incredible and but their ads only run for about 3 days at a time. And they sell out a lot of stuff. But they do blow everyone away in prices, around here at least. I could probably hook you up with some components. But you should probably furnish your own case. That would be more $$$$ to ship.
